Red Nile Commission: March 2012

http://www.ruthiefordrednile.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

15/03/12: Crocheted foxglove trumpets test run. Today I started working on the full scale crocheted trumpets for the foxglove. They will take a bit of experimentation to get the shape right. I am using 8 stands of yarn and a 15mm hook. I had a lovely phone call with Simon from Atlas Scaffolding in Stoke who has agreed to lend me 3 14ft scaffold poles to construct the flowers on. Hurrah! 09/03/12: Knitted hollyhock experiment. 06/03/12: Giant bloom models outside. 05/03/12: Felt foxglove making. 01/03/12:...

Red Nile Commission: 10/04/12: A month of making!

http://www.ruthiefordrednile.blogspot.com/2012/04/100412-results-of-month-of-making.html

10/04/12: A month of making! I haven't blogged much over the last month as I've mostly had my head down making the components of my giant hollyhock, delphinium and foxglove. It has been a real treat to have so much time for making! My house basically turned into a crochet production factory. There were balls of wool everywhere! The delphinium had to be hung from the eaves at one point to keep it out of the way! 14/04/12: Guerrilla Knitted Cottage Garden Interve. 10/04/12: A month of making!

http://www.ruthiefordrednile.blogspot.com/2012/04/130412-guerrilla-knitted-cottage.html

13/04/12: Guerrilla Knitted Cottage Gardening Workshop at Airspace Gallery. All photos by Glen Stoker. On Friday 13th April I held a 'make your own guerrilla knitted flower' workshop at Airspace Gallery, Stoke-onTrent as part of my Red Nile commission. The idea was to create a secondary installation to go with my giant intervention that people could engage with the making of. People could knit, crochet or make a pompom flower. Most people made a crochet or pompom flower. 10/04/12: A month of making!

Parson Cross Library Residency

At lunchtime I went to meet Ian at the old college site to have a look at some of the new graffiti that has gone up in the last week. At the weekend Sheffield graffiti artists Faunagraphic and Rocket01 did an amazing collaborative wall with a French artist joining them. Also painted lamppost have appeared this week with gorgeous lace print patterns and gold stenciled cats and stars. Exciting happenings! I also taught Anita to crochet flowers. Ian, Bailey, Ester and Anita knitting and pompom making. After...

Thornhill Lees Journeys

Idea for LICC project. I have been thinking a lot about dandelion clocks lately. I used them in a project a few years ago and I have noticed they are all over the place again. I was thinking about using the below visual for some personal work but realised it could be an effective image for the shop window display. Yesterday when I was up at Parson Cross I was struck by the idea that as well as making pompoms to hang from trees that we could maybe make some into flowers to plant around the area. They ...
