Leviathan Awakes by James S.A. Corey (2015 Sci-Fi Experience). February 2, 2015. I was convinced that the 2015 Sci-Fi Experience. Lasted until the end of February (and that the December extension was in addition to the original months), but it turns out that sometimes I need to read more carefully, because it ended with January – rats! So – back to the future, this is my second book for a Science Fiction reading challenge that’s going to last through January and February. The first was. After all, this w...

Podkayne of Mars by Robert Heinlein (2015 Sci-Fi Experience). January 14, 2015. The major cult author of our time challenges the concepts of morality and social organisation in ‘Podkayne of Mars’. Through the eyes of young, adventurous – and beautiful – Podkayne, Robert Heinlein explores the worlds of tomorrow. Heinlein’s inimitable skill at the unobtrusive exposition of provocative ideas makes this a story to delight (New York Herald Tribune). That’s the blurb for my version of Podkayne of Mars. Dominan...

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (Historical Fiction Challenge). February 2, 2015. This book was via my book group,. And probably not one (again! That I would have picked up from a bookshelf, simply because there are other periods of history I’m more interested in – and yet again, I would absolutely have missed out, so here’s to book groups! I had to go and look up the actual myths, because I only knew them vaguely, and just like the myths. The Song of Achilles. 20th century Reader – 2 books.

Newer posts →. Books 2015 – The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. January 8, 2015. This is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read, and I don’t say that about books lightly. It’s another book group read, and again I probably wouldn’t have picked it up in a bookshop, because I don’t think anything leaps out at me from the cover or blurb – and I would have missed out on so much! The Queen’s Husband by Jean Plaidy (Historical Fiction Challenge). February 14, 2015. I enjoyed this, although it somehow became less of a story and more of a history as I read through the book. There was much more story to it at the start, and by the end it felt rather as if I was being rushed through – which is understandable, because there was alot of Victoria’s reign for Plaidy to get through! Or at least a lot of her reign with Albert by her side – the book ended very. 20th century Reader 2 books.
