The View From Wildflower House. Simple living in the Sonoran Desert. A good year for roses. April 21, 2011 by wildflowerhouse. In spite of (because of? Very little rain this past winter, it’s been a good year for roses. Here is the beginning of this year’s harvest of rose petals. Last year I made Cactus Rose Wine out of prickly pear fruit syrup and rose petals. On April 21, 2011 at 3:05 pm. Beautiful roses, D! I needed that dose of prettiness today. 🙂. The View From Wildflower House. Simple living in the Sonoran Desert. Laquo; simplified windowbox heater. December 15, 2010 by wildflowerhouse. The other day I was talking with my friend Linda Leigh on the phone. Linda is a worm farmer. And was formerly a Biospherian. She told me about an experiment she’d been doing with a compost of coffee grounds and sawdust–only those two things. She said the compost was 138 degrees inside. To be held at the Sustainability Institute. Where would I put it? But I did hav...

Seams Ever After
Sunday, September 22, 2013. Now that fall is right around the corner I find myself looking over my closet and seeing what can be used again this season. I came across a beautiful white classic Theory blouse I purchased years ago yet hardly wear. Knowing I paid good money for it, I thought how stupid to have this gorgeous top just languish in my closet, why wasn’t I wearing this? Sunday, September 15, 2013. Sew Sunday is all about white skinnies. No white after Labor Day? Well, actually I have couple more...

Thrifting, Refashioning, Quilting, sewing, gardening, and horse riding going on here! Friday, October 10, 2014. The Harley Shirt Quilt. Here is the latest quilt order I had. It's an Anniversary present for my cousin and her husband. It is made from all of his Harley shirts. These were not T shirts but more like a denim. I was a bit concerned how hard they would be to quilt through, but really it went pretty smoothly. They seemed very happy with it! Monday, May 19, 2014. They are so adorable! To the tune ...

January 27, 2010. I used the book shown in the sidebar, So Simple Crochet, for the pattern to this. But you don’t really need a pattern; just find instructions for the loop stitch. Make a chain the length you want the boa to be. Make as many rows as you like using the loop stitch on both front and back sides. That’s it! So easy and it only takes 1 skein. I don’t see why you couldn’t do this with the knitted loop stitch just as easily. January 27, 2010. I adapted a pattern I found here. January 27, 2010.

Friday, February 1, 2013. I do this all the time. I see things online all the time, or my mom sends me pictures for some of the classes they do at Seams Sew Right, and I think to myself how cool it would be to be able to do that. Today there are so many different ways to learn things in all areas. You see online tutorials on how to do hair styles, makeup, and yes even quilting. We did watch the tutorials online but it was just hard to really see what was going on and how she was doing it. When you take a...
