Sherrie Knows

Thursday, May 15, 2014. I once joked that the difference between my husband and me was summed up by the way we approached the last piece of pie. My husband: “I’ll leave it for someone else.” Me? I’d squeal, “Ooh, pie! So, what’s a self-absorbed perfectionist to do when you’re married to someone like that? It seems counterintuitive, doesn’t it? So, here I am, a changed being from that 22-year old bride. I blame it all on my husband, you know. He’s the one who showed me that true kindness, ac...Are you all...

Sherrie Knows: September 2009

http://sherrieknows.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 14, 2009. Are you allowed to give yourself a haircut? A burning question. Why do we think a service is somehow superior when we've paid someone to do it? For instance, what is it about pedicures? Doing it myself - Ok. Paying someone - Fabulous! Money well spent. I'm definitely doing this again! Or Mowing the lawn:. Doing it myself - Sweaty, tiring. Paying someone - Well worth it. Necessary budget item. Is our time so extraordinarily valuable that we can't do simple tasks anymore? Someti...

Sherrie Knows: Ideal Me

http://sherrieknows.blogspot.com/2009/04/ideal-me.html

Monday, April 27, 2009. When the day came to write it all down, I was prepared. I was ready to commit. Ready for a better, more refined, more organized, more spiritual, more self-controlled me. Then I prayed. I asked Heavenly Father for specific direction in composing my list. I asked for His will, His insight, His divine help. He answered me. To my mind came. Fulfills Church callings faithfully. Keeps an orderly home. Is a blessing to my husband. Carefully nurtures all my children. Cares for my body.

Sherrie Knows: Manure Pile

http://sherrieknows.blogspot.com/2009/07/manure-pile.html

Wednesday, July 15, 2009. My Grandpa Hyde turned 101 last May. He's amazing! He and Norma (married now for 37 years) still live at home, make their own meals, and keep up with the political and financial scene. Even more importantly, they keep track of all the kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids with great interest and near-perfect memory. If you want to know who's where and what's happening, you can just ask Grandpa. And so, why "manure pile"? Because it is my favorite of his childhood stories. One day...

The Brintons: December 2013

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 26, 2013. Christmas couldn't have been much simpler- or happier! Around here. I'm smiling at the Nativity costumes the boys put together one night,. Especially the little angel with a towel and a headlamp! Zachary, the head costume designer, made some gold for the wise men. Why don't adults think of things like this? Just get pieces of paper and write "gold" on them, adding a bit of gold-looking jewelry? This was the first year that the kids could accompany some of the Christmas singin...

The Brintons: August 2013

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Good to be in Madison. These summer days are messy, tiring, happy, and perfect! Jacob and Zachary have been taking golf lessons every week with a few buddies. One day they forgot a water bottle on the course. I sent them back to get it, and when they came back 15 minutes later, they were loaded down with golf balls- Zachary could barely walk for the bulge of his pockets! Around town we've been busy with city events. The free traveling art projects with the Art Cart have fil...

The Brintons: September 2012

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 7, 2012. Most embarrassing, yet perfect Labor Day. Labor Day began as one of the most uncomfortable situations in my entire mothering life. Eric and I planned with some friends to go rafting/canoeing down the Wisconsin River. They found a fun beach with these sandbar "islands" close enough to wade to, and we set our GPS's to "Go! The walk took 45 minutes, mainly because I was carrying between 1–3 kids on my shoulders/back/hips the entire time! Oh my Oh no! After regaining my composure, ...

The Brintons: February 2012

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 17, 2012. Some winter fun and a little aloha! The boys and I went on a crisp but sunny bike ride this morning- it was perfectly mild, strangely typical of this winter. We used our snowblower exactly once and shoveled the front walk only a handful of times! Now there are bike-riding days in February: hallelujah! Max is feeling the goodness:. All winter long, we've had blessed little sunshiny days for zoo trips. Hanging out in the neighborhood warming hut (with my dad, ah yeah! The boys an...

The Brintons: February 2014

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Confirmed: boys in subzero temperatures can't feel the cold when they're having fun! Our day at Cub Scout winter day camp started out at -3F, rising to 16F by the afternoon. There was no indoor shelter, just hot chocolate and some "dump soup" (every kid brings a can of non-cream soup and dumps it in a huge crockpot- delicious, really! Over 120 boys attended the camp. Despite their best efforts, not all of them could fit on the merry-go-round concurrently. Everything went wrong...

The Brintons: January 2014

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Visiting with our Nana, Sam, and the Alldredges! We know our families love us, because they come regularly to see us here, even in the winter! We were thrilled to have Uncle Sam come for a long weekend! We got in some hockey, laser tag, and game fun. He has a heart of gold- he also spent hours pulling kids on sleds, reading to them at home, and matching a multitude of socks! We were equally thrilled to have our Nana come visit from Russia! Family, what a blessing to see you!

The Brintons: Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Castle Rock and Mackinac Island

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2014/08/michigans-upper-peninsula-castle-rock.html

Monday, August 25, 2014. Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Castle Rock and Mackinac Island. After exploring the Soo we set up camp in Castle Rock, MI, where we celebrated Adam's birthday with a tent party. And cake (a purchased. Cake- ha ha- I did not decorate that on a picnic table). The campsite was right on Lake Huron and we heard the waves throughout the night. The next day we set out on one of the highlights of our vacation: a day trip to Mackinac Island! We boarded the ferry with our bikes. Pulling into ...

The Brintons: June 2012

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 4, 2012. Zach, good sport of the year. On Thursday afternoon, Zach exited the school bus with something green in his hands: "It only went potty three times on the bus! This was funny to me because I wouldn't have been pleased if something green had "only" gone potty on me three times, much less even once! Thankfully, the "it" was only a chia pet that apparently had dripped three times on the bus. Zach skipped inside, snipped his chia's "hair," and placed it in the windowsill. We always have ...

http://aebrinton.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 25, 2014. Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Sault Saint Marie. We just got back from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and I thought that if I didn't post right away I might never get around to it, a fact that has been thoroughly proven over the past few months. Ha! The UP. has a distinct regional identity and well-preserved natural beauty that we have been eager to explore since moving to Wisconsin. What a week to remember- who knew that in the heart of the Midwest lies such a treasure? The members g...

Updates on Our Sweet Mom

Updates on Our Sweet Mom. Thursday, February 28, 2013. Ever since I can remember I was told that I had the looks of my Dad and the disposition of my mom. I can’t think of a better compliment than to have my actions remind people of my sweet Mom and according to Carol my Dad nails the salt and pepper look, so really it’s a win-win. So today as we honor my sweet Mom, I hope to share with you the many things that she was and what she represented. Mom is a Dancer. Why didn’t you wake me up? Mom is a Friend.
