Taunton Castle at Forty Steps. British Railways ' Castle' Class 4-6-0 No.7036 'Taunton Castle' passes under 'Forty Steps' footbridge on the western outskirts of Taunton with an up train in the late 1950's. Forty Steps footbridge was the viewing gallery for all train movements on the western side of Taunton Station and was the gathering point for generations of railway enthusiasts. Country Connections at Witham, Summer 1904. A distant whistle announces the imminent arrival of the late running 2.10pm service from Yeovil to Chippenham via Trowbridge and Melksham. Two platform staff assist a party of First Class passengers who are to travel on this train. On the down platform we see the arrival of the 2.50pm Westbury and all stations to Weymouth service behind "River" Class 2-4-0 No.72 "Exe". Framed original still available - contact. Simon was born in Taunton in 1950 and received his secondary education at Wellington School during the 1960's. He next spent a period of three years at St. Luke's College, Exeter where he received his formal art training and then spent the next 34 years working as a teacher, specialising in the area of the education of children with learning difficulties.
