Baby steps towards N fixing in non-legumes might lead to major changes in global agriculture. Researchers at Washington University in St Louis have been working on trying to establish what happens at the DNA level to enable N fixing in legumes. As you may or may not know, N fixing is an amazing symbiosis between the plant and a specific type of bacteria living in the root nodules.
