the Weis of Shanghai: September 2012
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Friday, September 7, 2012. Shanghai summers are very hot and very very. As a consequence, the majority of foreigners return to whatever better climate they call “home” for most of July and August. And as a consequence of that. Most organized activities that we enjoy throughout the year – music class, drop-in dance, swim lessons, playgroups – are cancelled for summer. As an endless source of local entertainment. Tyler’s f...

the Weis of Shanghai: October 2012
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. I’m a little disappointed that since living in a dorm in college, I have never had a trick-or-treater come to my door. In DC this was because only drunk homeless men stumbled by my alleyway entrance. In Spanish Harlem, it wasn’t worth it for a kid to hike up 5 ½ flights of stairs for one lame piece of candy. In the village, everyone watched or participated in the parade instead. Now that summertime...

the Weis of Shanghai: December 2012
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Although this was Tyler’s second Christmas, it was really her first experience understanding and participating in the holiday: dancing to carols, watching the twinkling lights on our tree, and eagerly unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning. Our little tree with stockings filled by Santa. Santa's gifts for TJ and Matt. Then he spent the night so as not to miss TJ’s early start the next day. As a rew...

the Weis of Shanghai: Mooncakes
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2013/09/mooncakes.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. We just celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival last week, which is a national holiday dating back to ancient China, and is meant to worship the harvest full moon. Similar to American Thanksgiving, there’s generally a lot of eating and drinking with family. Typical customs during the modern holiday include moon-gazing and eating mooncakes. Fancy box of mooncakes. Cut open to reveal the filling.

the Weis of Shanghai: January 2014
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Thursday, January 30, 2014. The girls and I have been frequenting Fundazzle, a fantastic indoor playroom, since it opened last summer. Because the outdoors is so often undesirable or downright dangerous for us to play - due to heat, rain, wind, or (most often) pollution - I am really thankful for this big, clean, safe, semi-convenient, and relatively cheap place for TJ to get some energy out and Avery to smile at strangers.

the Weis of Shanghai: Fortune Cookie
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2013/10/fortune-cookie.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Friday, October 11, 2013. We have lived here for over two years now, and in that time have sampled many types of Chinese food, including Ayi's Anhui homestyle; local cuisines from Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan; hot pot, noodle shops, Peking duck, street dumplings, and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). But we’ve never eaten Chinese food like this before . . . here. And it was delicious. Always up for a new...

the Weis of Shanghai: Sisterly Love
http://theweisofshanghai.blogspot.com/2013/08/sisterly-love.html
The Weis of Shanghai. The ways of the Weis, an American expat family in China. Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Tyler is a very enthusiastic big sister. Perhaps a little too enthusiastic, actually. Tyler recently learned how to climb in/out of her crib, so we transitioned her to a "big girl bed." And then Avery was outgrowing her bassinet, so we transitioned her to the crib. I'm guessing you can see where this is going, as you're (hopefully! Posted by the Wei family. August 27, 2013 at 5:28 PM. So awesome; love...
