Starfish Studio

Saturday, 26 July 2014. What's so great about Shetland? Having just spent a week exploring Shetland, I've totally fallen in love with the place. So, what was so great about it? Was it the wildlife. The way the weather changes every five minutes. Is it the fact that the roads were excellent, really quiet and with no pot holes? It's all of these things and more, but I think what I love the most is that life is lived the way it should be. I saw no graffiti and virtually no litter. And here's a wonderful way...

Starfish Studio: December 2012

http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, 13 December 2012. The Great Tapestry of Scotland. I've not been a very good blogger lately, have I? My last post was in October and now it's nearly Christmas. Tut tut! I do have an excuse though - every spare minute is currently spent stitching a panel of The Great Tapestry of Scotland. And I've not spent anything like as much time on the computer as I usually do (which is no bad thing! To find out more about the tapestry you'd be best to follow the link to scotlandstapestry.com. My panel is no...

Starfish Studio: February 2013

http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 19 February 2013. I know I'm biased, but my dad is a truly lovely man. He'll always go out of his way to do anything for anybody, and I haven't a scooby as to how many DIY related favours he's done for me over the years, so when he recently asked me to do a favour for him of course I said 'yes'! He can turn his hand to most things, but sewing's not his forte. The only option was to patch it. Then I had a light bulb moment! I ironed it on to the apron using Bondaweb. And then stitched it securely.

Starfish Studio: West Highland Way

http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2014/05/west-highland-way.html

Thursday, 29 May 2014. What an amazing, exhilarating experience this was - 96 miles from Milngavie (near Glasgow) to Fort William, through some of the most stunning scenery Scotland has to offer. I did the walk with my dad to raise funds for the PSP Association. Neither of us are exactly super-fit, muscle toned athletes, so it was always going to be a challenge! Dad is 72 and has a heart condition, so we just had to take it at a steady pace, plodding on whilst the younger, fitter walkers zoomed past!

Starfish Studio: March 2013

http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 8 March 2013. Great Tapestry of Scotland part 3. During my most recent stint of working on the pane my focus was on getting the apron finished but, as it's a very, very repetitive part, I kept my sanity by spending a few hours on that and then switching to the washing line, which was much more fun to do! Here are some close ups - string vest,. And the all important bloomers! I also felt it was time she had a face so she could see what's going on! They are fantastic, especially the wee ladder!

Starfish Studio: September 2012

http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 19 September 2012. A little ring of metal. This little metal ring has made me exceedingly happy today! It's a free machine embroidery foot which arrived in the post yesterday. When I first bought such a foot for my machine, the only one I could find to fit a Singer was this one. It's really hard to see what you're doing and I've never liked it very much. Disaster struck last week when the machine made a horrible sound and ground to a halt. I couldn't have done that with the old foot! It combin...

Living and working by the sea in beautiful, rural Aberdeenshire. Beauty and the Beast. October 26, 2010 in Uncategorized. What a great start to the week. I received the most delightful email from an American couple who had visited Starfish Studio whilst on holiday recently. My husband and I (from the Los Angeles, California area) visited your shop recently with our friends from Northampton and I want. Have a wonderful day. All the best from the both of us. The other sight that saddened me was this one.
