He was apparently taken immediately to be tried and sentenced in the dining room of Wiston House by the then furious owner of the estate, said to have been the Rev John Goring JP, but more likely perhaps to have been his father, Charles, also a local magistrate. As she was pursuing further interesting information, our correspondent continued mulling all this over. Finally, she looked again at Alfred's birth certificate and the penny dropped as she realised that young Mary Ann was the informant and must have wanted to leave a clue - Rengaw is Wagner backwards! Thanks to Steyning Museum. Wests was establish in 1931 by Dennis and Percy West providing the town of Steyning with a local printing service. The West family continued to own and run a successful printing business up to the early 1970's where it was taken over by the current owners. Keeping the traditional family business, Wests is now running into the 3rd generation. Wests is situated behind its original shop front from the 1930's to a warehouse with modern technology.
