In order to insure compliance with structural and historical factors in the restoration effort, the Board of Directors has established an independent evaluation group. During the restoration process, and upon completion of the work, the evaluation group will inspect the work accomplished and determine if the outcome complies with historical considerations as well as job specification. The Society’s initial task was to obtain estimates of restoration costs from professional restoration contractors. As a result of these estimates, a restoration plan has been developed. Requires elevating the building, excavation work, poured footing and rebuilding stone foundation. While building is elevated, install vapor barrier and new. On new foundation; attach floor joists. Repair and replace structural members of Northeast corner, requiring new corner post. Replace rotten window sills.

Why should we save St. Patrick? It is the second oldest Catholic worship site in Cecil County, Maryland. Built in 1819, the chapel is a testimonial to the impact of the Bill of Rights and the American Constitution. This chapel was built by Irish immigrants working on the Susquehanna canals and the local lumbering industry. The Penal Laws denied suffrage to Catholics. In their new country, they had the freedom to worship, and to build their own church, rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
