Cooking at work, at home, and on the road. American Fried Rice- A Thai Dish. I'm not sure if this is a post about a dish or a place, or an excuse to get all retro and instagrammy with my photos, so let's start with the place. Inside is a place lost in the 60's, The restaurant doesn't appear to have changed in 40 years. The decor, the uniforms, the menu, and maybe even the woman at the cashier! Has an interesting Chinese take on the place with more info on the history. Location: Bangkok, Thailand.

adventurefood: Homemade Pastrami
http://adventurefoodie.blogspot.com/2012/06/homemade-pastrami.html
Cooking at work, at home, and on the road. Before I was a chef, certain food was easily understood. Roast beef was a cut of beef roasted. Boiled carrots, grilled fish needed no explanation. Other foods were a mystery. Pastrami and corned beef in particular were fascinating to me. It's delicious, but what is it? Kensington Market through the ages. Some delis in Toronto. And latkes at Marky's, matzo ball soup or frankfurters and beans at Yitz's. It was all pretty great, but I still don't get gefilte fish.

An account of my ongoing gastronomic exploration. Newer posts →. June 21, 2012. So many tidbits and salutations to be offered: happy almost-weekend! Happy belated birthday to my mom. The rockingest lady around! These days, my summer traditions are few. I owe this to two factors: my nostalgia’s slow fade and the Bay Area’s dearth of True Summer Weather. I do love living in a seasonless zone; time passes differently here, and I welcome the chance to wear sweaters year-round. In the News…. June 6, 2012.
