My Hiding Place: The Tensions of Teacher Prep - the money version
http://museyme.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-tensions-of-teacher-prep-money.html
Monday, August 5, 2013. The Tensions of Teacher Prep - the money version. My sense is that state governments are interested in pouring money into private ventures (TFA, charters, online programs) rather than invest in teacher education programs at the state universities. Which is crazy because anyone who wants to be certified usually ends up going through a state school program (since they usually have a more expansive program). Any way to fundraise for these kinds of programs? August 6, 2013 at 6:11 AM.

Unsafe at Any Speed: a GREvious requirement
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/08/grevious-requirement.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. So, the GRE. I have taken it twice now. Not for a better score, but because after five years, your scores “expire.” I guess, after five years, it would be easy to forget the antonym of “encomium” and what the ratio of the sides in a 30-60-90 triangle is. So, I got to take the GRE for the second time last week, seven years after I took it the first time. Of course, none of this commentary means that much, because...

Unsafe at Any Speed: mostly rhetorical questions
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/07/mostly-rhetorical-questions.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. Why does it have to be such a pain in the ass to apply to graduate school? Why did I chose to take classes at five different undergraduate institutions, making ordering transcripts an ordeal that takes weeks? Why do I only have two good possibilities for recommendations? Why, oh why, do GRE scores expire? Why does it cost so much freaking money to take the GRE, anyway? Unsafe.at.any.speed. Advice at Your Own Risk.

Unsafe at Any Speed: of husbands and hummus
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/07/of-husbands-and-hummus.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. Of husbands and hummus. When we got home to our un-air-conditioned house around 5:30 this evening, it was too damn hot to even exist. (Note to self: walking to and from work is better in theory than reality when the heat index is in triple-digits.) We partook of cold showers and then Clark, genius that he is, suggested going to our local Mecca of Air Conditioning and Middle Eastern Food. Working in higher ed adm...

Unsafe at Any Speed: mish-mash. my brain is mush!
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/08/mish-mash-my-brain-is-mush.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. Mish-mash. my brain is mush! Thanks, all, for all the comments I haven’t responded to. Ugh That’s how I feel right now. Why? I’m not sure. There’s a lot of good going on. But I’m exhausted. I am working every day, and then going home and working 5 to 6 more hours at home helping Clark with home improvement projects. So, I’m dragging. But I have lots I want to share about:. Clark’s home improvement injury.

Unsafe at Any Speed: the tenure track, and the spaces in between
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/07/tenure-track-and-spaces-in-between.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. The tenure track, and the spaces in between. In adding blog links to my blog (for no good reason, I prefer to key folks' blog addresses into my template by hand to Blogrolling), I have noticed some things. I was noticing two distinct trends in the blogs I read. Completely unrelated observation: I read the blogs of a number. But it always takes me three or four tries to spell that damn word correctly. Working in ...

Unsafe at Any Speed: inhabiting new homes
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/08/inhabiting-new-homes.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. It's a home where I can see myself dissertating. And it feels good to be home. So, new homes all around. A dinner of salmon broiled with fresh pesto, steamed corn on the cob, and organic red zin awaits. Yup, feeling good. Unsafe.at.any.speed. I take it the meet with advisor went well? I meant to type meeting. Whoops. :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Advice at Your Own Risk. Travails on the t-t.

Unsafe at Any Speed: the Dark Side
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/07/dark-side.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. Clark is slowly converting me to SciFi genre shows and movies, the best of which I appreciate for their incisive and trenchant political commentary. I am a big fan of movies based on Philip K. Dick novels. 8212;Blade Runner, Minority Report, Impostor, even Paycheck—and I’m really looking forward to seeing A Scanner Darkly. Series, but I find myself rooting for the Doctor. In spite of myself. Travails on the t-t.

Unsafe at Any Speed: stillness, for a moment
http://unsafeatanyspeed.blogspot.com/2006/08/stillness-for-moment.html
Unsafe at Any Speed. Careening into adulthood with running shoes, a mortgage, and a passport. Stillness, for a moment. The whirl and tumult has ceased for few minutes. Big Sis has collapsed on the futon; Clark has fallen asleep sitting up in bed; and Niece (age 7) and Nephew (age 5) have retired to their bed in the guest room. I can hear them through 2 closed doors, attempting to "share" the down comforter. Although I don't envision a life where Clark and I are raising kidlets of our own, it is impossibl...
