Essays From Texas: California and back

http://essaysfromtexas.blogspot.com/2010/03/california-and-back.html

Thoughts the wind blew in. Monday, March 8, 2010. While in Anaheim, California last week, I enjoyed the lovely West Coast weather. But only while I was walking between hotels and the convention center. Snow-capped mountains in the distance and palm trees were taunting me the whole time as I went from meeting to reception to dinner to meeting. The red carpet of Oscar night was just 20 miles from where I was staying. Disneyland was just behind my hotel. But then it was back to meetings. Headed to the OC.

Essays From Texas: Scenes from the airport

http://essaysfromtexas.blogspot.com/2010/03/scenes-from-airport.html

Thoughts the wind blew in. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Scenes from the airport. While you usually don't want to see storm clouds closing in on the runway just before you're supposed to take off, this particular storm provided a spectacular view at the Preston Smith International Airport in Lubbock last week. I've said many times that the sunsets in West Texas make all the windy/blowing dust/nasty days that often occur in the spring seem worthwhile. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Headed to the OC.

Essays From Texas: Friday the 13th

http://essaysfromtexas.blogspot.com/2009/02/friday-13th.html

Thoughts the wind blew in. Monday, February 16, 2009. I'm going to use this blog post to tell a story. I can't say I've ever flown on a Friday the 13th. Typically, that's a day of bad luck. But, I flew last Friday the 13th to San Antonio. I took the day off from work to meet Byron in San Antonio. He had been there most of the week for a conference for work. About a month ago, we both decided that would be a good opportunity for the two of us to get away and explore the Texas Hill Country. After Byron's c...

Thoughts the wind blew in. Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Headed to the OC. My travels are taking me to Anaheim, California this week for Commodity Classic. You may recall previous postings from Classics in Nashville in '08 and Grapevine. In '09. Oh, wait.I wasn't keeping a blog when it was in Nashville. Nevermind.). The flight from Lubbock to Albuquerque is pretty short. It's just enough time to enter another timezone and for the landscape to turn into a more desert/mountain range look. The term " enscarpmen.

Essays From Texas: June 2009

http://essaysfromtexas.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Thoughts the wind blew in. Monday, June 29, 2009. I don't really think I need to do much commentary on this one. Tate belongs to Byron's oldest sister, Katie and her husband Roy, who live in Houston. These pictures and videos are from last night's weekly "Pops in the Park" . (or it's called something like that). Every Sunday night, a brass band plays at a park near campus. Byron has said before that you can't teach personality. If that's the case, then Tate was born with a lot of it! Links to this post.

Thoughts the wind blew in. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. As I've mentioned before, our wedding photographer Cristy Cross had some super cool ideas. It was loads of fun! Links to this post. Tuesday, September 15, 2009. We hope to go back when it's finished. After about an hour or so of boating out into the sea, we put down...

Thoughts the wind blew in. Friday, October 30, 2009. Fall Foliage in the Ozarks. This past weekend we spent some time in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains and were able to see the fall foliage in its prime. Our good friend, Carolyn Arnold, so graciously shared her lake home with us in Diamond City, Ark., on Bull Shoals Lake. The combination of the foliage with the autumn sky made for one amazing sunrise. Further west in my hometown of Prairie Grove, Ark., the leaves where painting their own picture. I'm not s...

Essays From Texas: December 2009

http://essaysfromtexas.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Thoughts the wind blew in. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. White Christmas in the Ozarks. Once in a blue moon we get a white Christmas. A winter storm dumped snow on our house in Lubbock and all the way to Arkansas, which is where we spent Christmas. Byron got his first taste of sledding on the West Farm on Christmas day. The snow was a very powdery, dry snow, and the windchill on Christmas day was in the teens. But, we went sledding anyway. Karen kept to the traditional run-and-jump sledding method. So, t...
