Saganist: Primary program
http://saganist.blogspot.com/2011/09/primary-program.html
Star Stuff Contemplating Star Stuff. Sunday, September 18, 2011. But did any of the kids say anything like that? I've come to accept that this is standard fare, but come on. Far from uplifting, I find this extremely depressing. Can we ever let kids be kids? Do we really need to make every single one of them parrot doctrinal garbage when some of them are barely out of diapers? I don't like to think that my kids are being indoctrinated, and stuff like this primary program certainly doesn't ease my mind.

Susan's Art & Words: February 2009
http://sculpturepdx.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Susans Art and Words. Sculpting a Life with passion, joy and creativity. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Creating a life of integrity and meaning without gods. Or how to be a meaning maker instead of a meaning seeker. The Atheist’s Way by Eric Maisel. My question then, is, where do I go from here? Eric Maisel would suggest atheism. I’m not sure I want any ‘ism’, if you don’t mind. But one idea in his book that I do embrace is meaning. Specifically, meaning making. What does that mean on a day to day basis?

Saganist: Reason's Greetings in Utah
http://saganist.blogspot.com/2011/12/reasons-greetings-in-utah.html
Star Stuff Contemplating Star Stuff. Thursday, December 15, 2011. Reason's Greetings in Utah. I've never really gotten into billboard and bus campaigns. Occasionally I will read blog posts about how a new atheist or skeptical billboard has gone up in some location. The stories are usually about how a billboard was vandalized or prohibited or allowed, or about how a skeptical or atheist group has raised or is raising money to erect another one. My first thought was, "Wow, that's awesome! I just might have...

Saganist: March 2011
http://saganist.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Star Stuff Contemplating Star Stuff. Friday, March 18, 2011. Just now, I read a Mormon Times article by Orson Scott Card, called Guessing leads to knowing. I actually liked most of the article, which surprised me since I don't generally think much of OSC. He's correct that almost all human progress comes from someone who had a hunch or a guess or a crazy idea that they decided to try out. Guessing is indeed a good thing. A historical record. It simply means I don't know. I make no assertion in ei...Now, ...

Saganist: June 2010
http://saganist.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Star Stuff Contemplating Star Stuff. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Bedtime conversations are the best. Sometimes my five-year old son, Alex, likes to trade beds with his younger brother. He likes to sleep in his brother's car bed. As he was yanking on an afghan to cover himself with it, I said, "Do you know who made this blanket? He said, "Mom.". I said, "Nope, not Mom.". He guessed, "Grandma? I said, "Nope, not even Grandma. It was my. He asked, "Is she still alive? And then he asked the salient question I kn...

The Writer Apprentice: February 2009
http://novaham.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
The moment a man sets his thoughts down on paper, however secretly, he is in a sense writing for publication- Raymond Chandler. Thursday, February 26, 2009. If you've been interested in improving your creativity at all in the last twenty years, two names are probably familiar to you: Julia Cameron and Eric Maisel. Julia, who wrote. I expected his new book. So I'm not a fan of organized religion, but I'm an astrologer and the granddaughter of a Christian mystic. Eric's premise is that reliance on any ...

Charlottesville Skeptics: January 2009
http://cvilleskeptics.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Promoting the use of reason, rationality and the tools of science in our everyday lives. Thursday, January 29, 2009. What is a Skeptic? There's been some discussion on the email list about the name of our group, and I'd like to throw in my two cents here. But I'd rather do good things than talk about what is good. No, I was never so great at philosophy. For example, every atom in your body, that is not hydrogen or helium, was formed in the core of a massive star many billions of years ago, or in the expl...
