Introducing Jersey: October 2012
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 25 October 2012. I know about France. And I understand La Francophonie. But this one has me beat. The mission of the French Institute (Alliance Française) is to spread the French language and culture (Langue et Civilisation Française). That I know too. So, when I go to the Institute's restaurant (La Cocotte) I generally expect to see French dishes, and when I see a revolving sequence of regional dishes (Plat Régional) I certainly expect these to be French. Time for Les Crapauds. Jersey's Dean- ...

Introducing Jersey: June 2011
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Friday, 24 June 2011. La Reine de la Manche. The Queen of the Channel", Jersey. Channel Islands, occupies a unique space. It is French but not French; it is British but not part of the UK; it is not in the EU but sort of of it; it is a tax haven sheltering under the relative respectability of a British Crown Dependency just off the coast of France. The big tourist festival, akin to the St. Patrick's day parade for the Irish, was the "Battle of Flowers" where magnificent floats, completely covered in ...

Introducing Jersey: Liberation Day
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2015/05/liberation-day.html
Sunday, 10 May 2015. Click any image for a larger version. So the people of Jersey, the island with which I am most familiar, had much to celebrate on this day in each year following the end of WWII. This year was special as the 70th anniversary and it was seen as marking perhaps the end of those celebrations in which aging survivors of the occupation could take part in any numbers. So I tweeted my friends in Jersey a happy Liberation Day and I meant it. What follows refers to Jersey alone. The montage a...

RICO SORDA: September 2014
http://ricosorda.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
The Chief Minister and Minister for Home Affairs have emerged from this saga with no disciplinary case, no Chief Officer, a pending report from a QC likely to be critical of the Island’s Government, and a bill for over a million pounds. They are not well placed to criticise the actions of others" Deputy Bob Hill. Trevor Pitmans Blog. BALDTRUTH". Sunday, September 14, 2014. Introducing Jersey: Proxy Bishop Bob
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2014/03/proxy-bishop-bob.html
Wednesday, 26 March 2014. Bob Key, Church of England Dean of Jersey (CI). I have just heard the Dean being interviewed on BBC Radio Jersey and a more sickening piece of effrontery you could not imagine. He was oozing complacency and triumphalism which must surely have made every one listening, bar his own claque in the Jersey civil and church power structure, throw up. The man is a smoothie weirdo. Jesus would have a fit. I already have. I have previously posted. You can listen to the Dean here. LAST NIG...

Introducing Jersey: November 2012
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 4 November 2012. This post is intended as a short backgrounder on the current situation regarding child abuse in Jersey (CI. Behind its façade as a British holiday resort with a taste of France and without the hassle of the French language, Jersey is actually a very different place. It is small (about 46 square miles / 120 km. Some years ago, individuals involved with the Jersey Sea Cadets. Introducing Jersey: Jesus loves Jersey
http://introducingjersey.blogspot.com/2014/05/jesus-loves-jersey.html
Monday, 5 May 2014. This is Justin Welby. He is the Church of England Archbishop of Canterbury and he has just given the most pathetic, insipid and duplicitous interview. I have ever heard. The interviewer was Matthew Price, of BBC Jersey, and, to give him his due, he didn't do a bad job, asking most of the necessary questions. Meanwhile, the young lady, whom Jesus no doubt loves as much as he might love any of the other players, has been living in distress and near destitution all the while. Now, Archbi...
