Adventures in food and photography. Spelt is an ancient relative of modern wheat. The spelt grain (triticum speltum) was widely used by the Romans. It was originally grown in Iran around 5000 to 6000 B.C., but it has been grown in Europe for over 300 years, and in North America for just over 100 years. It has gained popularity due to its nutty flavor, high protein and nutrition content. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:. Adventures in food and photography. Apples in the garden. The house is built on the orchard land of the Norwood Grove estate and White House just up the hill. We have two ancient apple trees in the back garden, one eating and one bramley. There are also numerous cherry and plum trees lining the nearby streets that are shedding their fruits on the pavement. Fingers crossed it will return soon before the upheaval of packing and moving really kicks in! Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches.
