Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Monday, February 27, 2006. There were just over two minutes left in the game and we were behind by ten points. Things looked pretty bleak. No, it wasn’t at the big dance. It wasn’t even the state championship basketball game. I was a on a 9. Grade basketball team and we were playing the junior varsity team from a near-by town. The coach had us go into a full court press. Our press was smothering. The other team fell apart. But it’s not a game. Presbytery...

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Saturday, March 18, 2006. A Denomination with No Beliefs. I don't believe in God. I don't believe Jesus Christ was the son of a God that I don't believe in, nor do I believe Jesus rose from the dead to ascend to a heaven that I don't believe exists. Given these positions, this year I did the only thing that seemed sensible: I formally joined a Christian church. He is a member of the PCUSA but doesn’t believe in God! Has the PCUSA become so diverse that i...

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Friday, May 05, 2006. When you see that you can find and enjoy new cheese, you change course. There are few things in life as exciting and faith building as praying with a person as they give their life to Christ or re-dedicate their life to him. There is a profound sense of awe a spiritual birth/rebirth has taken place. It is a holy moment the power of the risen Lord is tangible and present. It is a very personal experience with Jesus. Imagine the joy t...

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Friday, March 10, 2006. Hanky Panky and the New Testament/Covenant Part 1. Many people are very thankful that there is a New Testament to complete the work of the Old Testament. Some of the ancient holiness code was removed; other parts were given clearer definition and meaning. Take food for example. A group of men from our church meets each Tuesday morning at 6:30 am for breakfast and fellowship. Praise God for the New Testament! Robert Gagnon says, On...

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Friday, April 28, 2006. Top 10 Stop the Booze Party. Unless things have changed in the past few years, there is a HUGE drunk party that is thrown in conjunction with General Assembly. Delegates and General Assembly staff persons drink, and drink, and drink. This party is facilitated by General Assembly staff persons. The party is not held at the official hotel of the General Assembly. I use to be a chaplain at one of the colleges related to the PCUSA.

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Saturday, April 08, 2006. My plan is to post to this blog five days each week. We have made an offer on a different home in this general area. I am still going to be serving as pastor at Evergreen Presbyterian Church. I have missed several days this week due to having inspections at the "new" pleace, meeting with "fix-it" contractors, etc. Beginning Monday, be sure to check each week day for your week day fix of Full Court Presby! Thursday, April 06, 2006.

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Friday, March 31, 2006. Mission is the one area where the Purpose Driven. Presbyterians Network had to do some major tweaking of the original stuff from Saddleback. A common view in Southern Baptist circles is that mission always involves an outward sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ. This is definitely an important aspect of mission I would argue the most important. The network has developed a more comprehensive view of mission. Many of the kids h...

Critical look at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Friday, April 14, 2006. Holy Week (Friday) Don’t Panic! God is in control. The Easter services will be great. The Holy Spirit is already working in the hearts of those who will attend your church’s services. Hearts and lives will be changed! PS For those who have a children’s sermon time DO NOT mention that there is no such thing as the Easter Bunny. I made that mistake one time never again! Posted by Pastor Lance @ 10:46 AM.
