Alaska! | BLUE OCEAN MARINER
https://blueoceanmariner.wordpress.com/2015/06/04/alaska
CLIMBING THE HAWESPIPE ONE HAND AT A TIME! Sorry for the lack of recent updates. We’ve been super busy and when there was a chance to update Blue Ocean Mariner either we didn’t have sufficient bandwidth or I wanted to get off the ship for a bike ride, beer, whatever. The last update was a fishing update from our trip to the equator and was made while we were in San Diego. I still have a full report to post on that trip once I get a full connection and time ( like when I get home). Until then, be good!

The Fishing | BLUE OCEAN MARINER

CLIMBING THE HAWESPIPE ONE HAND AT A TIME! Each buoy that we recovered looked like a fish tank underneath. Mostly Mahi Mahi, but also a few Wahoo (ono), Yellowfin Tuna (ahi) and a few very nice Rainbow Runners. We’ve never really been given a chance to fish during a live operation before. Normally we put out handlines when we are steaming between stations or doing surveys. We are loaded with trolling gear, but had precious few jigs for use with a rod and reel. 1 Put on a fork. 2 Put in mouth. Most of the...

CLIMBING THE HAWESPIPE ONE HAND AT A TIME! Working my way up the Hawespipe. This is the maritime term used to describe someone who works their way up the ranks instead of going to an academy. Please follow along on my adventures! North to Alaska on the tug Polar Endurance. Like I said, things are moving fast. Here is some information about the tug I’ll be on from tugboat information: Polar Endurance. This entry was posted in Maritime Jobs. Leadership and management skills. August 9, 2016. August 7, 2016.

Deep Water Writing: December 2010

Of a Life at Sea and on Shore. Friday, December 24, 2010. Christmas at Sea - Robert Louis Stevenson. The sheets were frozen hard, and they cut the naked hand;. The decks were like a slide, where a seaman scarce could stand;. The wind was a nor'-wester, blowing squally off the sea;. And cliffs and spouting breakers were the only things a-lee. They heard the surf a-roaring before the break of day;. But 'twas only with the peep of light we saw how ill we lay. This day of our adversity was blessèd Christmas ...

Of a Life at Sea and on Shore. Sunday, July 18, 2010. The signs of a long voyage at sea are beginning to show in the crew. Chief Engineer to the Second Assistant: "How's that there tuna casserole? Second Assistant in a thick Norwegian accent: "Awww, it's not so very good". Chief Engineer: "Well, are you gonna eat it? Second Assistant: "Yah, I eat it anyway. Why not? But at ...
