Who’s the Monkey? The monkey (Walter Minkel) speaks his mind on libraries and young people. January 7, 2009. Is the Cookie Monster a terrorist? Posted by the Monkey under Libraries and children. Well, I don’t believe (I. That the Cookie Monster is really a terrorist, but he certainly looks like one for us these days on the cover of the October 1976. It’s so, well, predictive of what happened 25 years later… But to put it all in perspective, we should remember that in 1976 a remake of. You are commenting ...

Who’s the Monkey? The monkey (Walter Minkel) speaks his mind on libraries and young people. February 5, 2009. The End… at least for now. Posted by the Monkey under The author/monkey speaks. Hi, folks. Because I’m no longer doing children’s work in libraries, and have felt myself drifting further away from children’s work, I’m ending this blog. No, I don’t think so, as long as each new generation learns how to be literate and make judgments about what they read, see, and hear. I see them rarely now. I com...

Who’s the Monkey? The monkey (Walter Minkel) speaks his mind on libraries and young people. The ukulele seems, more than just about any instrument, to have been designed to strum and accompany singing. I am hoping that this page will become a destination for library children’s services folks who might be interested in learning the ukulele for singing with younger children in story programs. You can come here and get songs and uke information. And here’s Ukulele Tonya’s Beginner’s Pages. Wheels on the Bus.

Who’s the Monkey? The monkey (Walter Minkel) speaks his mind on libraries and young people. December 31, 2008. Bookstores, publishing, libraries, and mobile phones. Posted by the Monkey under books. A few days ago,. The New York Times. Ran another story about big-time changes in book publishing, called “Bargain Hunting for Books, and Feeling Sheepish About It.”. Is this only a blip in bad economic times, or is it the beginning of the end for books as we’ve known them in the past? But I wonder how librari...

DirectorWho: February 2009

http://directorwho.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Seriously, they are doing a build here in town. I just came back from the build site, and while I didn't see any of the 'cast' from the show, there is a LOT of activity and the house has gone from a cleared lot to being roofed in two days! I tried to get on the volunteer list, but by the time I found out about the project, the list had filled. It was that quick. Monday, February 2, 2009. The prison position was less so. DirectorWho: May 2009

http://directorwho.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30, 2009. I have two interviews this week. One at a bookstore. Actually, it sounds like a good job. I've worked in a bookstore before, and enjoyed it. This interview is first. The other is for a director position at a nearby library. I know what you are thinking:. Want to go through that again? I just want a job! Plus, I know the library, it's better run and has a firmer base and much more solid staff than that "OTHER" library at which I am no longer employed, and led to my current situation.

DirectorWho: Gripe of the week: keeping order in the library

http://directorwho.blogspot.com/2009/08/rant-of-week-keeping-order-in-library.html

Monday, August 17, 2009. Gripe of the week: keeping order in the library. Ok, here's the thing. In several of the libraries at which I have worked, I have encountered staff (not necessarily LIBRARIANS) who have balked at putting or keeping books in order. Now some are easier than others:. Hardbacks on a shelf are easy to see and maintain. Me: "Wait, I'm trying to put these in order here". The patrons just mess them up, it's a waste of time to put them in order". Me: "No, it's job security". So, anyway, w...

http://directorwho.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Well, we survived - with a record amount of rainfall, but almost no wind. Almost 20" of rain, and many roads closed due to flooding, including major roadways that is really making travel from one part of town or even to other counties (even via interstate) difficult. And now we are bracing for Gustav! Not to wish ill on other states, but I really hope it goes somewhere else. Thursday, August 21, 2008. Tropical Storm Fay: Fear her? Monday, August 18, 2008. SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts and other musings. Tuesday, January 15, 2008. Beware the downloadable audiobooks survey on our homepage! Are you excited about the revival of downloadable audiobooks? Especially now that I'm getting a Library Genius MP3 player, I know I am. Since we purchased the iPod last year, Fiona has learned how to keep earbud volume at a safe level for her delicate ears- partially through this educational yet addictive game. SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts and other musings. Wednesday, December 19, 2007. The grass is always greener on the other side, but I think I would've liked this a lot better while I was working, well, at the library as opposed to here at home. But I can see that Del.icio.us has some definite pluses, if only seeing how other people tag stuff. For me, it's more like t.ast.y, but it's still not half bad. January 17, 2008 at 8:59 PM. SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts & other musings: Some thoughts on lying

http://librarianmamasez.blogspot.com/2008/02/some-thoughts-on-lying.html

SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts and other musings. Monday, February 18, 2008. Some thoughts on lying. I just read an article today in New York Magazine about lying. It's really about a recent study regarding why children lie, but upon reflection afterwards I find myself thinking about my own lies, and those of my parents, my family, and my friends. It's a thought-provoking article that might be interesting at the very least to those who work with youth. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Talk About It More.

SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts & other musings: A public service announcement for library staffers

SAHM i am: half-eaten crusts and other musings. Thursday, December 27, 2007. A public service announcement for library staffers. In 2005 a coworker and I were selected for a year-long fellowship sponsored by the Lilly Endowment called The Journey. This moment of tranquility brought to you by Y-O-U! Not that this has anything to do with this post, but I thought you might laugh to know that I FINALLY got what SAHM stands for. Yep, I'm not the sharpest sharpie. January 4, 2008 at 2:05 AM. Soft and happy men?

The Monkey Speaks | Just the musings of a monkey :(l)

May 29, 2014. I wake up in the morning and I am feeling fine. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the day is full of promise. Who knows what will happen, but it will surely be good. Singing in the shower, dancing while getting ready, and I swear I look younger today. I crank the tunes in my car and sing at the top of my lungs as I drive to work. Ahhhhh bliss! Then, I pull into the parking lot at work. The expression misery loves company is 100% true with these types of people. If I was a real M...
