The Sockless Runner

Sunday, July 12, 2015. Grandfather Mountain Marathon Recap. I expected a hard run at Grandfather Mountain Marathon. A collage of images from the GMM course, taken from the race website. I used this flat open street section of the race to establish a 7:20 pace/effort. The pace wasn't coming as effortlessly as I had hoped, but I told myself I just needed to get warmed up and then everything would lock in. Here and there, I could catch a glimpse of Brian Kistner (from Ellerbe Marathon. She remarked about ho...

The Sockless Runner: January 2015

http://thesocklessrunner.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 20, 2015. January 2015: "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked.". January was supposed to be a "down month" for me. After having finished my focus races in the last months of 2014, I was looking forward to an easy month before gearing up for Uwharrie 20 and Ellerbe Marathon this February and March, respectively. So much for that! Between me and Sam. He clearly wanted in on the action. Suddenly, I had a feeling that there were cross-hairs on me. Great. Having run countless 5k races on this course.

The Sockless Runner: Team DURT: Blue Ridge Relay 2012

http://thesocklessrunner.blogspot.com/2012/09/team-durt-blue-ridge-relay-2012.html

Thursday, September 20, 2012. Team DURT: Blue Ridge Relay 2012. Being an ultra team, we would use only one passenger van, and unlike most "open" teams, our van would be active for the duration of the relay. The make-up of our van was not unlike the lineup of the. From left: Greta, Bobby C, Sam, Dave, Me (Chas), Bobby A, and Stan. This was not our night. Stan finished his 4th leg feeling unsatisfied- not being able to make up much time in the short, 3 mile distance, and Bobby C ran a conservative 5th leg&...

The Sockless Runner: Oorah! Marine Corps Marathon 2014

http://thesocklessrunner.blogspot.com/2014/10/oorah-marine-corps-marathon-2014.html

Thursday, October 30, 2014. Marine Corps Marathon 2014. As I write this, it's been two years to the day since the last time I qualified for Boston. I ran my guts out at Ridge To Bridge. That I started to think "OK, I got this.". Fast forward to race day. I woke up on the first alarm (no snoozing) at 4am to don my laid-out race gear and head to the lobby of the hotel for what was my first cup of coffee in two weeks. I was probably looking forward to the coffee more than the race! Hurry up and wait. That a...

The Sockless Runner: April 2015

http://thesocklessrunner.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 19, 2015. Trifecta: an Exercise in Dumb Toughness. A wise man once told me, "If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough." That man is now running in a skirt once a month due to losing a bet. 9:00am: Rhythm and Run 5k. Dustin had only been getting faster, and he was in top form after recently running a 1:27 PR for half marathon. He and I noted a couple more fast looking high school runners before we saw Fam. Well, there went 1st place. 1st place in the 5k. 2 races down, 1 big one left.

seriously hope: Run All the Miles - Marine Corps Marathon 2012

http://seriouslyhope.blogspot.com/2012/11/run-all-miles-marine-corps-marathon-2012.html

A chronicle of mis-adventure within the world of running and triathlon. Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Run All the Miles - Marine Corps Marathon 2012. Four weeks ago, I did something I thought I would never do in a million years. No, I did not eat liver mush with pimento cheese (ick. No offense my southern friends, but I can safely say this will never happen in a gazillion batrillion quadrillion millenion years). I ran a marathon. The Marine Corps Marathon to be exact. Did I really do that? This is where ...

No Limits: Lessons from Ironman Training

http://loloack.blogspot.com/2014/09/lessons-from-ironman-training.html

The Journey to my first Ironman. Sunday, September 21, 2014. Lessons from Ironman Training. I recently looked back to the first blog that I wrote "Hey Look I have a Blog" the Top 10 reasons someone may sign up for an Ironman. This got me thinking about some of things I've learned while training for an Ironman. I was originally going for 10 and it just grew from there. I could probably include many more and of course many more pictures, but I had to stop somewhere and bedtime was calling! 4 It may have ta...

Busy training! News Flash: Ironman training is incredibly time consuming. There are certainly ways to make it less time consuming, but I may only have one shot at this beast so I want to give it all I've got. Http:/ www.active.com/donate/IMchattanoogaCCFA14/IRONMANLAckerm.
