methods: impregnation | Thin Section & Micromorphology

http://www.thin.stir.ac.uk/2008/06/03/methods-impregnation

Thin Section and Micromorphology. At the University of Stirling. By George MacLeod on Jun 3rd in methods. Samples must be dry (see methods:drying. The perforated lid is removed from the Kubiena tin and the sample encased in an aluminium former. See image). The sample is placed in a vacuum chamber and resin is poured in along a glass rod to avoid disturbing the sample. The chamber is then sealed and evacuated to around 20 mm of Mercury (Hg) and left overnight. Polylite 32032-00 Resin Mixing Guide. Samples...

Thin Section and Micromorphology. At the University of Stirling. Currently Browsing Posts Tagged 'drying'. By George MacLeod on Jun 3rd in methods. When using either epoxy or polyester resins in the production of soil thin sections it is essential to remove as much water from the soil to allow the hydrophobic resin to fill all the pore spaces effectively. This can be done either by air or oven drying or by replacing the water with another liquid […]. Thin Section Production Movie 2.

methods: sampling | Thin Section & Micromorphology

http://www.thin.stir.ac.uk/2008/06/03/soil-sampling-for-thin-sections

Thin Section and Micromorphology. At the University of Stirling. By George MacLeod on Jun 3rd in methods. The main aim of sampling is to obtain soil samples in as undisturbed a state as possible. The process involves the careful use of Kubiena tins inserted into soil profiles, removed, sealed and bagged for transport to the lab. Detrimental to the soil structure causing shrinking and cracking, therefore the preferred method at Stirling is solvent exchange in the vapour phase. Thin section production movie.

http://www.thin.stir.ac.uk/2008/06/03/methods-processing

Thin Section and Micromorphology. At the University of Stirling. By George MacLeod on Jun 3rd in methods. The processing of polyester crystic resin impregnated soil samples into soil thin section slides is effectively a 5 stage process, bonding to a slide, cutting off excess, grinding to desired thickness, polishing and finally coverslipping. Bonding soil block to slide. The impregnated soil block is cut with an abrasive cutter ( Buehler Petrocut. Using 15 µm calcined aluminium oxide. Polishing: When the...

Thin For Summer

How do I lose weight in a month like 15lbs. Short answer:unhealthily and by drastically reducing calories. I cant really judge because I’m sure I must have asked people this question a million times. So, assuming you know this isnt right…. Reduce the amount of carbs you eat. Record your calories, apps are good for this. Drink more, tea, coffee and water are life savers. Go for runs in the morning to get your metabolism started straight away. Get an exercise routine and stick to it. Good luck, be safe 3.
