8/1 a look back on some lovely summer vegetables | thoughtful consumption
http://thoughtfulconsumption.com/2012/08/21/81-a-look-back-on-some-lovely-summer-vegetables
Notes from the life of a CSA member. Laquo; 8/15 muscadines and frozen pizza! 8/22 Asian pears, field peas, and goat cheese! 8/1 a look back on some lovely summer vegetables. August 21, 2012 by Susan. Here’s what came early this month. It’s kind of cool to think back about what we actually did with food rather than my hopes and dreams on a Wednesday afternoon. Patty-pan squash and apples. I’ve still some of these apples in the fridge. My hope and dream is to make horse cookies. Beets, kale, and corn.

Notes from the life of a CSA member. Laquo; 8/22 Asian pears, field peas, and goat cheese! 9/5 the best of both seasons. 8/29 closing in on fall. September 1, 2012 by Susan. Here’s this week’s haul. The red apples and sweet potatoes are a whiff of fall, and I’m excited for that change. First up, fruit. The apples have been a delicious part of our week. We snack on them in the afternoon. Yum! Sweet potatoes and greens. Sprouts, eggs, and cheese shortbread. Bernie’s cheese pecan shortbread was dreamy!
Muffin-sized mini-cobblers! | thoughtful consumption

Notes from the life of a CSA member. Laquo; Three lessons learned. Broiled eggplant rounds with goat cheese, tomato, and basil. August 19, 2010 by Susan. I started by defrosting some chopped peaches and plums from last month. I also had to defrost two egg whites and an egg yolk because I was out of fresh eggs. (Having eggs in the freezer. I followed the recipe for blueberry cobbler from How To Cook Everything. I drained the defrosted peaches/plums and put them in a muffin tin. First, I combined. By addin...

Notes from the life of a CSA member. Laquo; Working on the month’s backlog…. 9/19 – ginger, jam, and green beans. 9/12 – more season straddlage. September 23, 2012 by Susan. It’s that time of year where you get okra and apples in the same box! Welcome to this week’s Farmers’ Fresh take. Potatoes, both sweet and un. Apples (plus one sweet potato who missed the earlier shot). Now this is a watermelon. Lima beans, spaghetti squash, and sorrel. It’s been a big year for arugula. Thankfully, we like it pretty ...

Thoughtful Consideration...A Director's Process
Thoughtful Consideration.A Director's Process. Saturday, March 2, 2013. A lesson by the actor and the designer. In April of 1999 I directed a play at the Miracle called Burning Patience. Now I had know about Russ Fast from years earlier when I saw him perform in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. And told him the story and that it was about the poet Pablo Neruda. In that moment his jaw dropped, and he looked at me with a very serious look, and said "Who told you? Perplexed I said, "Who told me what? We are ...

thoughtful consumption | notes from the life of a CSA member
Notes from the life of a CSA member. October 1, 2012 by Susan. Check out these apples! And here’s some more from the fall line…. Sweet potatoes and butternut squash. Summer is still hanging on by a thread! Asian eggplant, sorrel, tomatoes, and garlic. I ate the sorrel plain. I know I’m crazy, but I really like it that way. The tomatoes are amazing. They are as ripe as they can be! So red and flavorful! The year of arugula continues…. And there’s even more apple goodness…. Caramel apple cakes and eggs.

I’ve been a bit distraught about this no cheese thing due to the abundance of plastic that it comes in. As mentioned before, even if the cheese comes in craft paper, there is a layer of plastic in which it’s required to reside. I recently realized, however, that I can buy cheese by the pound at the salad bar! But, being that the stores are so far out, and I don’t have a car, I really only go when opportunity strikes or I plan for an adventure. The Plastic Bank: Turning Plastic into Currency. Will be laun...
