High road from Hawi to Waimea, Hawaii. Or, where I discovered Paradise! Let me take a deep breath first. Let me soak in all the fabulous high mountain air. Now let me hang to something. Fast! Let me hope that the wind does not carry me away! And then, there is the immense gust of wind, and it carries you away. Away over the green grass, past the grazing cows, past the cinder cone, till you are floating weightless over the blue ocean. Diana February 24th, 2010. Kohala Mountain Road is a highway to HEAVEN!

A window to California's gold rush past. So it was a sunny early summer afternoon in May when we drove up the winding gravel road into Bodie. We were driving across Yosemite National Park to see Mono Lake, and Bodie. Leaving Mono lake, the road starts to climb to about 8400 feet by the time it reaches Bodie. The area around Bodie is bare and desert-like. Nothing to attract the attention except for the snow-clad Sierra range in the distance. The Bodie Methodist church. By an abandoned house.
