Luang Prabang- part 2. February 6, 2014. February 6, 2014. Luang Prabang is a much quieter place today. The Chinese caravans of BMWs, Audi’s and Mercedes have largely left town. Now the streets are left to grizzled western backpackers and the French. My plans for the rest of the day changed from hike/kayak trip with a local outfitter to a day closer to home. Unfortunately, I learned that the kaipan (seaweed cracker) that I had been snacking on last night with a Lao beer was not cooked, just sun-dried!

Si Phan Don- part 1. February 7, 2014. Maybe it is the 640 ml Lao beer talking …this place is special! Two hours on a plane, 30 minutes on a tuk-tuk, 3 1/2 hours in a truck (with 35 others- of course,Laotians are tiny), a 20 minute boat trip and I think I found paradise.
