Tripping With Toby

Thursday, June 19, 2014. Sicily to New York City. Nun Playing On iPad at Airport. April 8, 2014. Mt Etna winked a pinpoint of light to say good-bye as we took an early morning ride in the dark to the airport in Catania. We were fortunate to be sitting on the land side of the plane. By the time we took off it was light enough to see Etna in all her glory: snow-. Capped and fuming steam. Now to answer a question I asked many people before we decided to go to Sicily. Tripping With Toby: August 2012

http://trippingwithtoby.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 4, 2012. September 7, 2007-Farewells. Wendy’s poncho finally bit the dust. David was wearing it on this trip and he wore it out. The reason I mention it is that it was the poncho she took to summer camp from 1978 on and we’ve taken it on every trip on which we’ve gone. That’s one strong piece of plastic. Just a last note on unique food over here: we eat Pringles at home but these flavors are more interesting. They have beef and onion, Thai, and Greek cheese with avocado. Paddy & Black Cab.

Tripping With Toby: Sicily-Catania

http://trippingwithtoby.blogspot.com/2014/06/sicily-catania.html

Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Friar Tuck Outside Cathedral. Amphitheater and Fetid Water. April 7, 2014. To be fair, I must mention that, given its history, Catania is holding its own. It has been destroyed by Etna, earthquakes, and armies seven times & has re-built. Maybe they're tired. Maybe they're superstitious. They may think that if they don't take care of the city noone and nothing will devastate it again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sicily to New York City. Italy to Sicily and Catania.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Lotus In The Mud. Jan 23, 2013-Always More. Just when you thought you'd heard the last from me. It reminded me of something else I learned in India. For those of you who have read The Life of Pi. Or who've seen the movie, a major component of the philosophy of Pi is that he embraces everyone's religion. In India I found that to be more truth than fiction. Our plan had been to go to Manhattan this afternoon & evening but it's way too cold. I hope I was able to share with you India.

Tripping With Toby: Sicily- Monreale

Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Car Sneaking Up On Judi. Silver and Gold in Monreale Duomo. April 1, 2014. I look forward to writing at the end of each day, but as a reward I've been nibbling on chocolate. Just one square does the trick. There's a learning curve when traveling. This morning David pulled the cord in the bathroom thinking it was a fan. Soon afterwards our phone rang. The desk wanted to know if there was an emergency in the bathroom. I feel so cared for ;). We saved E$2 per hour. The building was r...

Saturday, October 20, 2012. Back To The Falls, Brazil. Jan 22, 2009-Carnivale Show. I promise you, if you read to the end of this email you will be rewarded with a good laugh. David's epiphany yesterday was that there's no correlation between body size and bathing suit size. Laura Lee observed that only men were standing around the bar in the pool. They were drinking lots of beer. She speculated that she wouldn't want to swim in that pool given the amount of beer consumed. Iguazu Falls, Brazil. I really ...

Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Support Breast Cancer Research, Enter a Contest. It's late in the month of October, and it is still pink everywhere. I'm a survivor myself, but every year during this month I sort of put my head down and wait for it to be over. I'm grateful for the funding that I know enabled my own survival and that of so many other women and men, I truly am! I've participated in fundraisers even. It's the advertising onslaught that gets to me, I guess. For 5 years now (hooray! Prize is a book...
