under the infinite sky: about me
http://el-cielo-infinito.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html
Hi, i'm marit. i'm a seventeen-year-old girl from washington, d.c., looking for an adventure and a challenge. My blog title is from pablo neruda's poema 20. Which is one of my absolute favorite poems. My favorite book is the elegance of the hedgehog. And my favorite movie is out of africa. My idols since childhood have been nelson mandela and wangari maathai. My always-tentative gap year plans:. Travel to myanmar with my family over the summer (1 month). Intern at a human rights office in argentina.

under the infinite sky: ¡Por fin, Barcelona!
http://el-cielo-infinito.blogspot.com/2014/06/por-fin-barcelona.html
161;Por fin, Barcelona! The last new city of our gap years. Ten months, four continents, dozens of cities, and a couple best friends - it all culminated here. It had to be legendary. Everything felt momentous. Barcelona did not disappoint. Though our primary nickname for our motley crew will always be "the wombmates," after our stay at Wombats in Munich.). I wasn't expected all the signs to be not in Castilian, but in Catalan! No matter what blog, guidebook, or website you read, there's really only one h...

You're taking a gap year? Why am i taking a gap year? It's unexpected; it's a leap of faith; it feels surreal. Plenty of people have told me they're jealous of my gap year, but it's no wonder more people don't take one. outlining a realistic year was tough: i've been planning and researching since september, though i only finally committed in may. It feels like uncharted territory. To make new friends and new family. To travel with my best friend maddy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Youre taking a gap year?

Dont cry for me, argentina. The truth is i never left you. (well, not yet.). Part 1: don't cry}. I've accomplished so much and grown so much here in argentina. i've learned how to live independently and been absurdly proud of myself about the littlest things: figuring out how to get a (free! Also: i hope this doesn't echo my goodbye-myanmar. Post too much; i honestly haven't revisited it while writing this but some of the sentiments are probably similar. Part 2: for me}. It's time to go home. "home" ...

Buenos días, buenos aires. I now feel like i've really seen the heart of argentina; i couldn't have left the country without visiting buenos aires. i need to go back and see everything and walk around more and sit and people-watch for hours without worrying about our tight schedule. i could easily see myself living there, sipping coffee at the window seat of a busy cafe, looking out as the city moves by. Purely on the basis of shared blood. Walking down avenida de mayo. Extremely unclear on the meaning o...

http://el-cielo-infinito.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Looking forward, looking back. This weird transition that is late december is a time to look back and to look forward. i'm so proud of what i've accomplished and learned in twenty-thirteen, and so grateful for everything i've gotten to experience and everyone i've gotten to meet. Looking back, i don't think i could have asked for a better year. i had some of the best days of my life, from my second semester of high school through my gap year adventures. some highlights:. A cold and windy spring break at ...

My journal, may 11, 2014, begins:. It's nice how coming back to paris feels familiar, almost like a homecoming. no pressure to pack in all the sights or stress about getting too lost.". While tamar speed-repacked her luggage at her family friends' apartment, near the musée d'orsay, maddy and i headed for île de la cité. Then we hightailed it outta there; we had to go meet T. Next door was the sainte-chapelle. A little bit of senegal, in a very different place. This Is The End. It wasn't the same once tam...

Las cataratas del iguazú. A 21-hour bus ride stretched into almost 25, with only dry cookies and the non-ham-tasting bits of ham-and-cheese sandwiches for sustenance. My european friends planned a day trip to brazil while my american passport made it illegal to join. The zipline group was booked up the only day that i could go - most of the others already had gone while we were still on our later bus. Me and ava. i adore this picture. Jungle. (and a very dirty bus window.). The falls are visible from bot...
