Automate tmux sessions with tmuxinator. For those of us who spend a lot of time at a terminal, tmux. Is almost always part of our standard arsenal of tools. In my quest to make tmux a little more flexible, I came across tmuxinator. Tmuxinator allows you to set up different profiles for tmux that automate the normally tedious task of launching a set of windows and panes in a specific arrangement. Very helpful for when I want to fire up a new dev environment. Before the tmuxinator gem would install.

Disabling tmux repeated commands when switching panes. One thing that has always annoyed me about tmux is its tendency to repeat commands when it’s not really appropriate. Turns out the only place I find it irritating is when switching tmux panes with prefix arrowkey (in my case, a Uparrow), so I found This blog post. Yes, I have a blog. Ah, yes, the requisite geek blog. I don’t expect to have anything on this blog that you’d care about, it’s more to enhance my memory and serve as a tech journal. A geek really needs a place to keep track of all the little tips and tricks he comes across - stuff that proabably seems obvious to many others, but he rarely recalls on the spot. Change the location of vim swap files. On StackOverflow today - added it to my .vimrc immediately. I’ve always been mildly annoyed that vim leaves .swp files laying around in the current directory. True, they’re prefixed with . , so normally they wouldn’t show up, but due to muscle memory I always end up typing ls -ltrah , which shows hidden files (among other things). Testing your server's SSL health. I was reading an article on TechDirt. Today about Forward Secrecy in SSL/TLS connections and how Twitter had recently introduced it. In a nutshell, forward secrecy is a way of SSL handshaking that prevents someone nefarious who’s recording your SSL traffic from decrypting all of your previous SSL communication if your private key is compromised. Out of curiosity, I ran the linked SSL tester. S guide to securing my install. Passing all the tests now with 80%!
