Unorthodox Foodie: February 2012

http://unorthodoxfoodie.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. 8220;Carpe Diem” at Tasting Kitchen. Known for many impressive things, what I recalled the most was the super attentive wait staff, the artisan cocktails that took ten minutes to make with care, the big block shaped and slow melting ice cubes, and the way each course of a meal was brought out and explained by a different server. This time we decided to tak...

Unorthodox Foodie: July 2012

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Tender veal, simply adorned with light jus and exquisite buttery, fried potatoes. Italian chopped salad with chickpeas and salami, room temperature and slightly dressed with a creamy, tang. While we ate at the restaurant Gold made a point to frequently leave the exposed kitchen to warmly walk the room and converse with just about every customer, most of which ...

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Monday, January 7, 2013. Great Grapes and Grilled Cheese Honor Out With the Old and In With the New. First up was a more traditional version of thick, white sourdough bread, cheddar cheese, leftover beef from Christmas cold cuts and creamy avocado – all of which blended together with a fine meat funk between its crispy covers. Bella button mushrooms, bacon bits,. It was an evening of...

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Saturday, January 28, 2012. Romancing the '80s at Michael's. I think that kind of congeniality goes a long way. Especially for this place, that I had totally forgotten I had been to years ago on a Museum trip, that resides in a house off the bustling Santa Monica 3. I was pleased that Michael clearly loves art even if every piece of art on the walls added to the seemingly frozen in t...

Saturday, March 10, 2012. Midday Meal Provides 'Green' Goodness. I'm an avowed meat lover, so I was shocked at just how much I enjoyed Trio Restaurant's stacked veggie burger at a recent lunch there. This delightful creation consists of roasted red pepper and portobello, eggplant, caramelized onion, basil pesto and goat cheese, all served on an brioche bun with a side of chips. And when that first sip is followed by poached shrimp atop goat cheese grits.you know you're in for a real treat. I recently enjoyed a preview of the New Year's Eve Celebration planned for December 28-31 at Fleming's Steakhouse, and indulged in the restaurant's brand new release, a 2009 Cab called Forty-Six Diamonds. Sunday, November 18, 2012. Fall Before the Storm. The fall season in South Jersey is pretty hard to beat in terms of foliage-related beauty. I had the pleasure of spending some time there visiting family and friends, just a week before Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on our beaches and farms. Part of that memorable visit included some yummy wine tasting at idyllic Bellview Winery's Italian Fest in Landisville. From dandelion to blueberry, Bellview offers more that 30 varieties of vino for the tasting.

Monday, May 28, 2012. Uncorking a Crisp Holiday White. What do Bad Company and good wine have in common? The answer is Paul Cullen. The talented classical guitarist and former bass player for this beloved classic rock band also has his own wine label, aptly titled Unplugged and Uncorked. When Paul visited the desert recently, I had the pleasure of tasting several of Paul's wines, and his thirst-quenching, tropical, 'I wanna be on a beach right now' Sonata Bianco comes to mind on this hot holiday weekend.

Monday, February 24, 2014. Getting My Greek On. What's deep amber in hue, comes in a beautiful blue and gold labeled bottle, tastes like an adult caramel, and packs an epic burn? This hefty liqueur is made with aged distillates and aromatic Muscat wines from the Aegean islands. Perfect on its own, but especially delicious when enjoyed with an authentic gyro, courtesy of the Palm Desert Greek Festival. The Hellenic side of my family would be proud.Opa! Follow me on Twitter:.
