John's Navigator Build: April 2015
http://johnsnavigatorbuild.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. A hinged main mast. I saw an article in Woodenboat magazine (WB #237, March-April 2014). About a year ago describing a simple but elegant mast hinge. I figured that a hinged mast would be easier to manage and set up than standing on a boat on a trailer and manhandling a free-footed 15' spar with all the lines and rigging doodads. So I copied the article and put it on my desk for future reference. This past weekend, I made the mast and hinge. That can give you all the dimensions yo...

John's Navigator Build: November 2014

Saturday, November 29, 2014. Making Sails: I'm not as clewless as I used to be? One of the interesting things about building a boat like this is that you have to always be thinking several steps ahead of where you are. For example, while planking the outside of the hull, you have to plan for and make the cockpit seating. Why? It is so much easier to get the fit and curves right if you don't have installed planks blocking your access and view. Cutting the batten pockets. Mainsail laid out and stitched....

John's Navigator Build: 2nd Course of Planks done.
http://johnsnavigatorbuild.blogspot.com/2014/09/2nd-course-of-planks-done.html
Wednesday, September 10, 2014. 2nd Course of Planks done. I got a lot of work done in the past 2 days: Starboard side 2nd course planks cut, installed, and filleted. About 6 hours work total. I'm thankful for the forgiving nature of epoxy and its ability to cover over my myriad mistakes. I do know I don't have proper sharpening tools to keep my edge tools keen. THAT's an issue. I also don't have the space to lay out boards properly so that I could be more accurate in my work. I also have beco...And you c...

John's Navigator Build: December 2013
http://johnsnavigatorbuild.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 28, 2013. Use at your own parrell! This will be my last post for the year as we're headed down to Phoenix for the Christmas week. When I was down in Chicago visiting my friend Dale this past week, we stopped at an odd-lots type of store, and I came across a bin full of wooden beads with holes drilled through the center. My first thought was, "Aha! Just the right size. And just $0.10 each? Can you buy ANYTHING for ten cents these days? Lots of bulkhead parts. Meantime, I'm pretty please...

Monday, April 27, 2015. I just realized that I hadn't posted in a while. I figured it had been a month or two.but SIX MONTHS? View on the cradle from the port stern quarter. She looks good from far, but far from good! Nice sun-flare of my phone-camera. View from the starboard stern quarter. View from dead astern. Pretty symmetrical. Mid-ships view. Love those Welsford lines, and the nice little bulge in the belly. Just like the builder! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Puffin - A Welsford Navigator.
