Last weekend, for the first time, I got out of the capital, Addis. I went to Lake Langano. About 200 km from the capital in the South, with the newlywed couple, their friend and my roommate. Until the Saturday morning, the day of departure, we were not sure exactly what time and with which car we were leaving. But this is Africa! Although the distance is 200km, you cannot reach in 2 hours. The landscape of suburbs and countryside seemed quite similar to the one of Burkina. Trees in unique flat shape.

It has been already 2 months since I moved to Bangkok. It has been quick but also with lots of events. Here is a flash back of the 2 months. The month of April when I moved to Bangkok was the hottest time of the year in Thailand. The shift from 4-5 degrees in the UK to 35-38 (minimum 25-30) degrees was really big. My first holiday on the beach in Thailand. The recommended place, not far from Bangkok but with "beach holiday" atmosphere was an island, called Koh Samed. We got free biscuits and water shaped in bus! It took 4.5 hrs, longer than expected to get to the closest coast to the island. There is the choice to get speedboat directly to your hotel but the timing for us was not great and also expensive so we took a very slow public ferry. There is a very 'unique' shaped pier at the island. We will be back!

On 14th April, I finally put my step in East Africa. I started working as an intern at UNICEF Ethiopia office for the next three months. The work of UNICEF is mainly office-based. I have had rather field-based experience so I am not sure how much I would like this type of work in development. I like trying new things and also I think more and more that local people who know the country, culture and language would be more suited for field-based work than absolute foreigners like me. Since February, I have been off work while waiting for all the paperwork to be done for my next job. So I took advantage of the free time to do what I want before leaving Europe. 1 Meet friends in Paris. It takes only 2 hours and a bit by Eurostar between London and Paris. (Sometime it takes similar time between Brighton and London when there is some railway issues.). My last stay in Paris was the Christmas 2010. In lots of snow. Go to a concert of a friend. Already one month has passed this year. I have quite well started realising the resolutions that I had written in the last blog. Once a week, I started going to yoga class nearby my place. I have not been too crazy of it to practice at home though. I chose a unique yoga class with the mixed style of yoga, pilate and stretching, using weights. Une semaine depuis le super typhoon Haiyan aux Philippines. Voici, un petit blog que j'ai fait pour mon organisation, le bureau régional de l'UNICEF en Asie de l'Est et Pacific. Je voulais partager ce que moi-même et le bureau entier faisait pendant la première semaine après le super typhoon qui a endommagé plusieurs régions des Philippines. Le weekend dernier, je suis sortie d'Addis pour la première fois! Je suis allée au lac Langano. Qui se trouve environ 200km au Sud d'Addis avec les jeunes mariés et nos amis pour deux jours. En fait, jusqu'au matin du jour de départ, on savait pas avec quelle voiture et à quelle heure on partirait. C'est ça, l'Afrique! 200km ne dit pas qu'on arrive à la destination dans deux heures. Heureusement, notre chauffeur, mon coloc était très bon donc on a pu voyager sans problème. Arbres avec une forme unique.
