Bulkeley Hill and Bickerton Hill - Christmas walking in Cheshire (Part 1) - Walking Girl's Guide
http://www.walkinggirlsguide.com/1/post/2014/01/bulkeley-hill-and-bickerton-hill-christmas-walking-in-cheshire-part-1.html
Bulkeley Hill and Bickerton Hill - Christmas walking in Cheshire (Part 1). I had a very relaxing Christmas this year. Sometimes I feel a little bit like I'm rattling through a to-do list before Christmas, but this year felt a lot more chilled out. Perhaps it was all the online shopping. In any case, this left me with plenty of time to do some walking, which was probably a very good thing given how much food I ate! Was our destination of choice for both walks, but we headed to different part of it. Making...

BULKELEY HILL AND BICKERTON HILL - CHRISTMAS WALKING IN CHESHIRE (PART 2). I'm finding the combination of a busy new job, wedding planning and house hunting is having a detrimental affect on how regularly I'm blogging lately. A whole week later than planned, I've finally managed to get round to the promised second post about my walks over Christmas. In fact, after the amount we ate on Christmas Day, I could probably have done with a much longer and more difficult walk, but hey, it was Christmas! That som...
A letter to cyclists - Walking Girl's Guide
http://www.walkinggirlsguide.com/1/post/2013/08/a-letter-to-cyclists.html
A letter to cyclists. Friday really was the last straw. This letter goes to those of you - you know who you are - who treat pedestrians like dirt. Those of you who assume all pedestrians deliberately exist just to annoy you and who think that we should all bow to how superior a road-user you are. So what happened on Friday that's made it necessary for me to write to you? You know who you are, the cyclists who think you rule every road and pavement. Who think if you cycle on the pavement - which, by t...
New boots and no blisters - Walking Girl's Guide
http://www.walkinggirlsguide.com/blog/new-boots-and-no-blisters
New boots and no blisters. Looking all shiny and new before my first walk. I'd been on the look out for a new pair of boots for while, as my old ones had been giving me blisters, despite repeated wear - in hindsight, I think they were half a size too big. With a wedding to plan though, new boots weren't top of my list of things to spend money on. Luckily, my new ones - Atmosphere Women's Walking Boots. One line review and score. Admiring the views from the Sandstone Trail. I usually take a size 7 shoe an...
I think I have pavement rage... - Walking Girl's Guide
http://www.walkinggirlsguide.com/1/post/2012/10/i-think-i-have-pavement-rage.html
I think I have pavement rage. After last week's quite serious post. I thought I would tackle a more light-hearted subject this week. Namely, the fact that since I started walking around London I have started to develop a bit of a black list in terms of things that annoy me when I walk. Tunnel, just next to Blackfriars Bridge. 1 People walking really, really slowly right in front of me. When I get stuck behind people walking slowly it drives me absolutely bonkers - if I'm out for a stroll it's not so bad,...

Hiking and walking in Ireland and the UK (mostly). Couch-to-5k: End of week two. Couch to 5k: Moving on →. Couch to 5k: Week 3, Day 1. March 4, 2014. Well, that was weird. This is the “break-even” week of the programme, when the proportion of running is equal to that of walking. And I was expecting to find it harder. But truth be told, it was the easiest workout yet! I’m a bit disappointed it wasn’t more challenging. But I’m impatient. This entry was posted in couch-to-5k. Couch-to-5k: End of week two.

Hiking and walking in Ireland and the UK (mostly). Couch to 5k: Week 3, Day 1. Couch to 5k: Moving on. March 28, 2014. For the past lot of runs I’ve been feeling that the C25k plan is holding me back, so I’m going to ditch it. It’s a good training programme, but for me, it’s done its job – and that job was really to make running a habit once again. More impressive, no matter about paces, times or distances. Well, not much. Having plans is just a way to tempt fate.😉. It’s three laps, so if there is...

Hiking and walking in Ireland and the UK (mostly). Run, rabbit: C25k Week two, Day two →. Running, day 2. February 11, 2014. I did the second run tonight, a bit behind schedule. It should have been done at the weekend. Again, no special route, and again more walking than running. But that’s all part of the plan. Still, minor improvements: tonight was an 11-minute mile average instead of a 13-minute mile. Progress is progress! This entry was posted in couch-to-5k. Run, rabbit: C25k Week two, Day two →.

Hiking and walking in Ireland and the UK (mostly). Couch to 5k: Moving on. April 1, 2014. The River Lagan, wot I sometimes run beside (but not today). I was a bit apprehensive about tonight’s run, because my last one, on Sunday, was horrible. My legs felt like dead leather weights, and every step was a struggle. I jacked it in after fifteen minutes, sore, wheezing and miserable. But tonight turned the tables – it was the best run of the year so far! So yeah. I’m slightly buzzing. Couch to 5k: Moving on.

Hiking and walking in Ireland and the UK (mostly). Running, day 2. Couch-to-5k: End of week two →. Run, rabbit: C25k Week two, Day two. February 21, 2014. Best run yet since I’ve restarted! The first time I’ve gone over two miles. This really wasn’t meant to be a running blog, and I’m not going to post about every single run I do. That would bore you to tears, as much as it would me! But the odd progress report won’t hurt. This entry was posted in couch-to-5k. Running, day 2. March 31, 2014 at 11:57 pm.

Well, that’s the second week over. It took more than two weeks because I missed running a couple of days. I’m not sticking rigidly to the C-5k programme. Today I did the planned session and repeated half of it. I’m looking forward to starting week three, because it’s starting to feel like time to step it up a bit. Discoveries of the day:.

Wasdale Part Three: Green Gable and Great Gable. Finally, I have a chance to sit down and write up another day of our trip to Wasdale. My two favourite walks from the whole trip have been awaiting their turn! First up, is our climb up Great Gable (with a slight detour to Green Gable first). Looking towards Great Gable from near St Olaf's church in Wasdale. The last remnants of cloud were lifting. Branching off to take the path up to Beck Head. Getting nearer the top of the ridge. The view from Beck Head.

Walking God's Way.". Friday, November 9, 2012. WOWWho'd have thought that 8 months would pass without a post to this bog! This morning, when using an 'old' computer, I checked my favorites list and found this blog among my bookmarked sites. Feeling quite negligent, I thought I'd just post a brief update on my Walk With God. :). No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.". I know that what I need to do is to live an...

A memoir of trekking in the Himalaya. In 1983, at the age of 49, Esther Melvin's restless heart was yearning for something she could only describe as mountains. Suddenly, a series of chance events led her to step out of her comfortable life in Hawaii in order to attend a Buddhist retreat at a monastery in the Himalaya of Nepal. Thus began a series of treks and meditation retreats among the world's highest peaks that would change and revitalize her forever.
