Weavers Wood Alpacas

Friday, 22 August 2014. New Alpaca Yarn for Autumn. I've totally failed in my New Year's Resolution of blogging more often. I've finally accepted that I'll probably only manage to do it about three times a year. I enjoy everyone else's blogs though, this can be quite a solitary life so it helps to find out about others trials and triumphs. Here's a picture of it in action (I'm making a cowl):. And here's our yarn from the 2014 shear:. It's all hands on deck now to get knitting for the autumn markets!

Weavers Wood Alpacas: Premature cria and unhelpful weather

http://weaverswood.blogspot.com/2012/06/premature-cria-and-unhelpful-weather.html

Wednesday, 6 June 2012. Premature cria and unhelpful weather. Some of my alpaca breeder colleagues are so good at keeping up with their blogs! I try and follow your example but don't do very well. We spent from Saturday until yesterday getting her going and, sure enough, the weather has been EXTREMELY unhelpful. Mum doesn't like going in the barn and so it's been a balancing act between keeping the cria dry and warm and having them both outside as much as possible. At first the cria wasn't strong enough ...

Weavers Wood Alpacas: Mite in Alpacas

http://weaverswood.blogspot.com/2012/10/mite-in-alpacas.html

Tuesday, 16 October 2012. Although we've never had any problems with worms, a couple of our alpacas do have reactions to the dreaded mange mite. We have a family of foxes who live in the hedges and copse which surrounds our paddocks and so aren't in a mite-free zone (who is? I thought I'd share our mite experiences as it's always good to know how other people are tackling this problem. Then we have Jean-Luc. A neutered accoyo male who has very dense fleece. He's a real kicker and so for months la...This ...

Monday, 6 January 2014. Rain, a Randy Alpaca and Roll-on Spring! Happy New Year Everyone! The rain has driven me inside and forced me to update my blog at last! So we've been laying stone and using hurdles to try and save the ground. It's not too bad but I'm ready for winter to be over already! We've got plans to work smarter in 2014. Here's our stall at Frome Artisan Market:. My new year resolution is to do more blogging. Let's see if I can stick to it. ;-). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bit of ha...

Friday, 27 January 2012. More Mud and Motivational Issues. I'm finding this winter harder than the last couple, the constant half-light and rain is sapping my motivation. Weavers Wobble (But We Don't Fall Down)

Friday, December 12, 2014. Mara Art: She's SOOOO Proud of Zach. One of Amara's (my 9 year old) loves is to make art. Recently her 13 year old brother Zach asked a girl to be his girlfriend. For some reason this made lil' sis so happy and excited for him that she just had to stop everything she was doing and draw him a picture. She proudly placed it in front of him, he ignored it and she didn't care because she was so thrilled for her big brother. Links to this post. Tuesday, December 9, 2014. That's actu...

Magical Animals and Marvellous Knitwear. Knitwear made in the UK from 100% British Alpaca. Go to our Shop. Our knitwear is made from only the best alpaca fleece, sourced from our own animals as well as from other local herds. Alpacas are shorn once a year in spring. We then collect the fleeces and send them to a specialist alpaca mill to be spun into yarn. Our yarn is sent to a family-run knitwear manufacturer in Leicester where it is made into beanies and scarves on their specialist machines.
