Adventures in Farming: January 2009
http://farmergower.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
A watched seed sprouts just the same. Monday, January 26, 2009. 2008 Review Green Beans. Officially, these are Contender bush snap garden beans, and they were planted like practically everything else on May 24th. The first bean was picked on July 11th, one week before they were scheduled to produce, based on the seed packet. Way more plants. Possibly 25 might do it, but H really loves green beans, so maybe not. And of course, lots and lots of compost. Running planting list for 2009. Did the onions sprout?
Adventures in Farming: So Long, Farewell
http://farmergower.blogspot.com/2009/06/so-long-farewell.html
A watched seed sprouts just the same. Monday, June 15, 2009. So Long, Farewell. Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye. Instead of ending with a photo of the carnage, death, and destruction on the Farm (the family came back for seconds, and thirds, etc., until all that's left are stems), I'll end with what may be the last harvest- a very tiny portion of the strawberries, protected from the woodchuck feast by some especially prickly wire fencing, and picked fresh this morning. June 16, 2009 at 9:13 AM. Love letter to c...

Adventures in Farming: Somebody Call a Doctor.
http://farmergower.blogspot.com/2008/08/somebody-call-doctor.html
A watched seed sprouts just the same. Friday, August 15, 2008. Somebody Call a Doctor. I hope you're sitting down for this, because it's going to come as quite a shock. Not only has the Farm blog been somewhat neglected over the past week, but so has the Farm. The even more shocking part is the reason for the neglect: I have been working. Like crazy. See? I told you to sit down. That is where some ginormous moths laid their eggs, which then bored. The powdery mildew, as it turns out, is not that big of a...
Adventures in Farming: It Was the Best of Times
http://farmergower.blogspot.com/2009/04/it-was-best-of-times.html
A watched seed sprouts just the same. Tuesday, April 21, 2009. It Was the Best of Times. Thanks to Mother Nature, the first Wando pea seedling has emerged). And It Was the WORST DAMN TIME in the Entire History of the farm (thanks entirely to the ridiculous and not forward-thinking farmer). What happens when your farmer puts you in a sunny windowsill on a windy day. All the potential tomatoes. You know what this means: Raise a glass, and pour one (or a few) for the homie. Pour one for my homie.

Because this news is just too exciting to wait for me to get caught up on filling you people of the internets in on the nuts and bolts of the farm these days, I give you a quick view of the Excitement on the farm! We're solidly in spring mode, and on track to have the first snow-free March in 125 years1. Thursday, March 18, 2010.

Well-Read Hooker | Musings on yarn, books, and hooks
Granny Squares: A Brief Rant. September 20, 2012 at 9:33 am ( Uncategorized. I often feel like crocheting is the red-headed stepchild to knitting. Most of the samples in any given yarn store are knitted. When I go to a yarn store and browse the pattern books, there are binders full of lovely knit patterns and one for crochet containing ugly, bulky sweaters and amigurumi. If I set my default pattern page on Ravelry to knitting and crochet, the highlighted patterns are inevitably both knitted. Margaret Atw...
