Adventures of a Weekend Warrior. Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Cali Trip - Part 1: Pauley and Lavezzola Creek. After a great trip down the MF Feather last Memorial Day weekend, ( trip report here. Jason, Shawn, Chris and I decided to head down to California once again this year for another boating adventure. Originally, we had discussed doing another multi-day self-support trip, this time on Deer Creek. After devouring breakfast, we headed to the grocery store to grab some food for the trip before making our wa...

Wheels & Water: Ride Report - Crater Lake, OR (6.22.13)

http://wheelsandwater.blogspot.com/2013/07/ride-report-crater-lake-or-62213.html

Adventures of a Weekend Warrior. Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Ride Report - Crater Lake, OR (6.22.13). Although I've lived in Oregon for 13 years now, amazingly, I've never been to Crater Lake - Oregon's only National Park and the deepest lake in the United States. I'd actually wanted to visit the park for years now, but since it's a bit out of the way from my usual destinations, it's always seemed to take a backseat to other plans. After doing the Old McKenzie Pass. Backed up at the park entrance. Alex, on...

Wheels & Water: Black Rock, OR (In Lycra)

http://wheelsandwater.blogspot.com/2013/02/black-rock-or-in-lycra.html

Adventures of a Weekend Warrior. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Black Rock, OR (In Lycra). With a crew of 11 strong, we headed north on Sunday morning, clad with lycra, styrofoam helmets, and clipless pedals - perfect for a day of shreddin' freeride trails! As we made our way along I-5, the morning fog started to give way to sunny skies, and I knew it was going to be a good day. By the time we reached BR, it was around 10:30am, and after getting suited up, we started our ascent up Mt. Brown. After a quick r...

Into the Outside: May 2015

http://mthoodh2o.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 18, 2015. What's left to say about kayaking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains that hasn't already been said? Scotty Baker, Matt and myself left Bend around 1 in the morning and drove through the night in an attempt to maximize the small window of free time we had with as much boating as possible. Taking shifts behind the wheel, we made it to Placerville by breakfast and were gearing up at the South Silver put-in by noon. The one benefit of the high water was that it made all the inbetween rapids...

http://mthoodh2o.blogspot.com/2015/06/we-had-completely-different-plans-in.html

Thursday, June 25, 2015. Annual Lewis trip, 2015. We had completely different plans in mind until we checked the gauge and saw this was probably the last chance we would have at running the Lewis River Falls section this year. 4 people would be running it for the first time, with Adam Elliot and Ben Mckenzie running a rarely paddled line on the left side of Middle Falls. Nick made a video of the trip, here it is! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Of the runs on this site in alphabetical order.

http://mthoodh2o.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 30, 2014. Wiki #12: South Fork Grays. The scouting trip for this run was a lot more eventful than kayaking the stream, and just as fun! Finding the put in bridge was easy enough, but we tried for the shorter shuttle route on the way out which weaves through a maze of logging roads. There were still drifts of snow on the roads and while the Honda Element is a great car, its AWD system is terrible! 2- It tends to flow when other creeks are dropping out. So if I was a day late to Hagen...

Friday, March 27, 2015. No Coffee down there, T minus 1600 feet. All photos: Emile Elliot. Elkhorn is too woody upstream of Big Twelve Creek to be worth running in my opinion. From there down a few large rapids with wood still need to be negotiated before reaching the final canyon which has some nice boating and is described on Oregonkayaking. The access road is at about 4,000 feet and often snowed in, the following pictures are from tripcheck. Day after we ran Elkhorn, similar to the day of. Below here ...

Thursday, June 4, 2015. Upper Sultan (Dam Release). Written by Priscilla Macy. Finding a singular trip report that provides directive and up to date information about the Upper Sultan is as about as elusive as the run itself. Has a write-up from their trip in 2005 and American Whitewater. Provides a brief summary of the run and the river including information regarding the logistics of flows and access. The Sultan River is under management of the Snohomish PUD. The trip starts out by parking a vehicle on...

Tuesday, 10 April 2012. Track worlds. better late than never. Unfortunately things didn't quite pan out as I might have hoped. A mis-timed start in the 500 cost me a PB (but didn't effect the overall result), while my legs didn't want to play in the pursuit.
