Wildlife Photography across the Water: October 2011

Wildlife Photography across the Water. Wildlife photography blog news views reviews images. Monday, 31 October 2011. WWT Slimbridge Day Trip Part 3 - last bit. My days out to Slimbridge are usually spent photographing the wildfowl from the wild hides capturing the sorts of birds in my last post. But when I went a couple of weeks back, the water levels were low and there were very few close in birds to photograph. But here are a few common birds, that always give me great pleasure to watch. Cheeky Grey Sq...

Wildlife Photography across the Water. Wildlife photography blog news views reviews images. Thursday, 28 June 2012. Well you dont need me to tell you about the bizarre weather we are having in the UK this Spring and Summer(? Suffice to say it has played havoc with the wildlife in my garden. We had a good burst of Red Damselflies a while back, a few Blues and Azures and one beauty that was new to this garden was a Banded Demoiselle. But not a sign of other other form of Dragonfly yet. Goodness only knows ...

Thursday, 28 July 2011. Look Back - March. Spring was in the air, by the end of the month the first visitors had arrived, I saw Chiffchaff on the 14. In the local park. Also of note was the change in behaviour of our resident birds, increased song in the mornings and tip top plumage. Early breeders had started (Geese and Ducks). Life bird count: 403. Sunday, 16 October 2011. Bulgaria – Lake Bourgas – 20th September 2011. Just back from a trip to Bulgaria, plenty to see with this being a massive migration route for birds moving through from eastern Europe to wintering grounds in Africa. We experienced many birds but nothing as impressive as flocks of hundreds of White Pelicans. In total we must have seen 5000 birds. Life bird count: 414. Year bird count: 253. Month bird count: 145 (Sep). Photo: Great White Pelican ( Pelecanus onocrotalus).

Monday, 18 July 2011. With the breeding season all but over and some summer visitors starting to return to their out of season areas (Cuckoos have already been tracked through. And back across to. It may be a good time to take stock of the year so far. I’ve not done as well as anticipated on the East Anglia bird count, there will be a second chance for the wintering birds and some of the migrants, on their way back, but I’ve not been to see Nightjars, Golden Orioles or Honey Buzzards. Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Sunday, 28 July 2013. Busy, busy times. Stripping the back roof. Half done (the 'cripples are the triangles with planks on). The back completed (minus guttering). Some of the rot in the front sarking. It's hard to believe it's July! Just a few of the old slates to be 'processed'. One from 'down the cliffs'. And from the day there with Clive. Sunset over Flugga from Saxavord. Baltasound sunset 11.15 pm 24th July. On the odd sunny, cal...

Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Wednesday, 20 August 2014. As I sit here near the last week of August, I'm thinking 'blimey what's happened to Spring? Then, when I look back over the last couple of months, the reason it seems to have flown by is that things have been pretty busy. As well as the usual jobs around the house and garden etc, I've had a few days guiding for Brydon's Shetland Nature. I then asked what they were expecting me to do - 'can you get a boat?

Thursday, 2 June 2011. Norfolk – Cley – 28th May 2011. Watch out for: Summer visitors; Waders, Warblers and Terns. After a week of sunshine we set off at just pass 6 O’Clock in the pouring rain and slightly doubting our logic. Thankfully when we arrived on the coast the rain had stop and during our visit we were not disappointed with the birding. The star attractions were, 2 Little Gulls. And Little Ringed Plover. It was also good so see numerous Black-tailed Godwits. Photo: Whitethroat ( Sylvia communis).
