inky mere: Gayer Anderson Museum (Tues 26)
http://inkymere.blogspot.com/2013/03/gayer-anderson-museum-tues-26.html
Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Gayer Anderson Museum (Tues 26). I went to the Gayer Anderson Museum. Today for the first time. Now I am really sorry that I didn't go before. The Gayer Anderson is actually two houses from the 17th century (1600s for those of you like me who can't keep that straight) and possibly the best preserved domestic architecture from that time period. You can go read wikipedia. The buildings themselves are gorgeous! I hav...

Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Friday, April 17, 2015. This morning, a day off, I am still in bed mid-morning. I have come to realize I am exhausted, which is part of the reason, but a bigger piece is that bed is a place I like to hang out. It's comfortable, and I can read and write in silence. My house is often very silent, which I love. I know that I want to continue to be involved in the arts, probably in some sort of leadership way. I want a chance to exercise ...

Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Tuesday, April 09, 2013. On the way home. I am sitting in the Cairo airport, early because traffic was bad so we left early. It has been a good trip and I find myself both excited to go home and deeply reluctant to leave Egypt. It seems that when I finally get comfortable time speeds up and there is never enough of it. http://inkymere.blogspot.com/2013/04/medley-of-pictures.html
Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Saturday, April 06, 2013. This first one is Bab al-Futuh, one of the three remaining gates in the ancient Fatimid walls of Cairo. My cousin Laila dancing in her apartment. Khouweider, an Arabic sweetshop which my father thought was the best in Cairo- it is excellent. A street shot in Cairo. Floating on the Nile. A shot of the crowds in the office that does birth certificates. My uncle on a felucca. Gihan again- she loves to laugh.

Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Thursday, March 28, 2013. Gayer Anderson Museum Photos. There are also photos on my facebook page in an album. It is hard to upload a lot of photos here, so please go have a look there. The top part of this is an amazing ceiling from Syria or Iran. The guy who did a lot of the restoration work collected old things from around the Middle East. A fabulous old chest. I loved this tile. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Gayer Anderson Museum (Tues 26).

inky mere: Ibn Tulun Mosque
http://inkymere.blogspot.com/2013/03/ibn-tulun-mosque.html
Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. This was my second stop today. The Mosque of Ibn Tulun. Was completed in 879 AD. All I can say is.wow. I've been in older mosques- the Umayyad Mosque. In Damascus comes to mind, and it was an amazing space as well- but this one is just lovely. I love the open feel to it. It was completely restored in the early 2000 so much of the decorative work is visible. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Promote Your Page Too.

http://inkymere.blogspot.com/2013/04/late-nights.html
Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Thursday, April 04, 2013. Last Thursday I went to my aunt's house to watch how couscous is made from scratch. It is quite easy, really, but takes some time and probably some making to know it is right. My aunt cooks without recipes and with very basic tools. She thought it was rather amusing that I wanted to know, and I was writing it all down and taking pictures to boot! My cousin Ahmed, who lives in Texas, opened the door! We ate dinner...

Open space. water in parched land. cliffs and mountains. movement. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Answers to FB questions. A couple of people left questions on FaceBook so here are some thoughts:. Does everyone walk around with mobile phones? Do they grow their own vegetables? Could you describe and/or photograph the street you are staying on? Cameilla, Thank you so much for taking the time to write so generously. It is a joy to be able to read your visions! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
