Adventure Abroad

Monday, October 24, 2011. Fall academic travel was spent with the 8th graders in and around Lausanne. After a brutal 6 hour drive due to poor navigation of our bus driver, we arrived at the Bex salt mines. A 100 meter well and no salt. That's a years worth of digging for nothing. Riding the crazy train to the center of the mine. Next days stop was the Olympic Museum. On top of the museum looking at Lake Geneva. Fall is on fire. Stroll by the lake. Ropes course for the monkeys and me. Dusk over Lake Geneva.

Adventure Abroad: September 2010

http://www.andyabell.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 16, 2010. As I am a huge advocate of spontaneity, I accepted a spur of the moment invitation for a bike ride with another teacher at the High School. Being that the 60 year old British guy named Paul is a avid outdoorsman I was a bit weary for what I just got myself into. Nonetheless, seeing new things is always worth whatever it takes. Stating at 1200 meters in the tiny village of Fontana. All of the old houses up in the mountains are made entirely of stone including the roof. A view...

Adventure Abroad: December 2010

http://www.andyabell.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 9, 2010. After frolicking the hills of Salzburg we decided to treat ourselves to a spa day in the little Swiss mountain village of Vals. Driving through the Arlberg tunnel, Austria's longest tunnel (9 miles). On our way up to the thermal baths we spotted this billboard we have heard so much about. It is a political ad that says "Expulsion initiative YES, Propose an alternative NO". I think the picture speaks for itself. Built in 8756.or was that the address? Monday, December 6, 2010.

Wednesday, November 10, 2010. For our fall break Emily and I set our sights on Greece. As we walked the streets under the Acropolis it seemed everywhere you turned there were ancient ruins. Listening to some classic Greek music on the Lute (Greek guitar). The most impressive part of the museum is the statues recovered from the Acropolis area. Looking at the Acropolis with the Parthenon on top from the Museum. The gateway to the Acropolis. Looking North from the Parthenon. The Parthenon in the background.

Adventure Abroad: March 2010

http://www.andyabell.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 25, 2010. Dubai United Arab Emirates. A seven hour flight from Bangkok put me into Dubai at 1:30 am so I grabbed 5 hours of "sleep" in the airport and then headed out for my day in Dubai. Flying into Dubai as the world whizzes by. Even with the recent bankruptcy crisis, Dubai is still a city under constant construction. My first glimpse of Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest man-made structure ever built. Catching the metro around town. Even the metro station feels like a grand ballroom.

Eastern Adventure: Thailand number 2

http://mike-dahl.blogspot.com/2011/03/thailand-number-2.html

Saturday, March 12, 2011. I left the glorious beaches and islands of southern Thailand to explore the Chiang Mai and Bangkok area before heading back to India. Plenty of temples in Chiang Mai to visit. My friend Hilary and I. I have been craving mexican food for months and this restaurant in chiang mai didn't dissapoint. The sunday night walking market is amazing. It goes on and on and on. This adorable lady forced her beautiful jewelery onto me, it was worth it to see her smile though. Wat Po in Bangkok.

My Adventures Abroad: October 2008

http://blairsblabbering.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 30, 2008. Friday, October 24 - Wednesday, October 29. Once we dropped off all of our stuff we grabbed our guide to the beer halls of Munich and took off to the center of town, riding the underground. Yeah, we are brave ladies. The Town Hall at Night. Anyhow, we successfully found one of the famous halls the Augustiner Großgaststätte. Where I was able to sample some white sausage with the skin on, which I later found out I was suppose to peal off. Oops. Chillion at the Town Hall. The lea...

What was the order? Walk Like an Egyptian. Family Dinner, what a feast! Walking out on the ice towards the race track we had no idea what to expect. There were people everywhere and from what I knew of St. Moritz, it was going to be a swanky experience with women in furs, champagne flowing, and great people watching. So cu...
