Bitten by Knittin'...: Garter stitch orgy
http://bittenbyknittin.blogspot.com/2011/11/garter-stitch-orgy.html
Sunday, November 13, 2011. Now that the baby/toddler items are done, all I want to do is knit. No seed stitch, no ribbing, no purling, just knit. The Mason-Dixon Mitered Crosses blanket is perfect for that. I have all the mitered cross squares done, but am struggling with the joining of them. So I decided to weave in ends first, a Sisyphean task that is easy to put down. When not weaving in ends, I have been knitting EZ's Suspender Cardigan from Knit One Knit All. First, you knit the back. Borders used t...

Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Feather and Fan baby blanket. I like making blankets. They tend to be simple patterns requiring little thought and not much counting or angst. They are always appreciated and well-used. Pattern: Feather and Fan Baby Blanket. Yarn: Dream in Color Classy, in 'Wisteria'. I was planning to get a pic of this blanket with Baby N, but it has already left the premises. I love baby blankets because they always seem to be treasured! Beautiful blanket. Lovely color choice too. This crochet pa...

http://bittenbyknittin.blogspot.com/2009/10/new-use-for-self-striping-sock-yarn.html
Monday, October 26, 2009. A new use for self-striping sock yarn. Here are the finished gloves for my SO. The self-striping sock yarn looks like faux Fair Isle, don't you think? And I love that the fingers are each unique. Pattern: Based on gloves chapter in The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns. Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Encore Sock Double Knitting Weight, color 7521. Modifications: Added buttonholes to index finger and thumb of one glove. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Between Rome and Paradise. I like kn...

http://bittenbyknittin.blogspot.com/2014/03/medium-foot-socks-and-how-to-avoid.html
Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Medium foot socks, and how to avoid the dreaded gusset gap. Sometime it just doesn't matter what you do. Pattern: Sock Recipe: A Good Plain Sock, by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Yarn: Online Supersocke 6-ply, in 1621 colorway. Modifications: ribbed top, flap heel, rounded toe, plus details below. Has anyone read of a similar solution? Between Rome and Paradise: FINALLY!
http://betweenromeandparadise.blogspot.com/2014/12/finally.html
Wednesday, December 17, 2014. I didn't sleep well the night before last, just could not drift off (damn that five o'clock cup of coffee), but since I am RETIRED, I made up for the difference by sleeping in. Consequently, I was still in my pj's when the contractor called to say they were on their way. Wha'? The week before, the paint-and-ceiling crew came and fixed one join in the crown molding that I was willing to live with but that really bothered the owner of the contracting company; he's tall and it ...

Thursday, June 25, 2009. Clap, clap, clap. Why oh why did I knit another Clapotis? This is my third. Do I need three shawl/scarves that don't work perfectly as either. After much soul searching I find two major reason why I knit my third:. 1) I was seduced by the yarn. 2) I like a simple knit. The Clapotis, Log Cabin Blanket, and Pinwheel all share a special attribute. They are easy, simple, but very clever designs that produce striking and unusual objects. I would like to know about more like th...Butto...

Monday, May 11, 2009. I haven't been working much on the Learn to Knit Afghan. I guess other projects have been more compelling lately. But I did sew the first column together and loved the results. Here is a photo. Here is another view. The panel is too long to photograph as one strip, so it is folded over. Here is the last square I finished. Labels: learn to knit afghan. My first thought when that photo popped up on screen was: "What a cute scarf! May 12, 2009 at 10:12 AM. Blue Shoes and Happiness Scarf.

Monday, March 30, 2009. Dilly dilly and the lifestyle. How old do you have to be to remember the nursery song Lavender Blue? It goes "Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green." So I named these socks Dilly after the color and to rhyme with the matching sweater I'm making that I call Jilly. More about Jilly later. I'm on the last sleeve. The pattern is Charlene Schurch's (aren't you tired of reading this illustrious name on my blog? What makes these socks a little interesting though is that this typ...
Woodchuck Acres: Satiated and saturated

Tuesday, August 04, 2015. When I read about a Chicagoland garden tour on the gardeninacity. Blog, I decided it sounded like a good excuse to get out of town. The tour is a triennial event sponsored by the North Park Village chapter. Of the Wild Ones. And features member gardens as well as community gardens. I went in hopes of garnering some fresh ideas for my yard and came away with a brain overflowing with possibilities. The Loyola Beach Dunes. Woodchuck Acres: A mighty fortress is my garden
http://woodchuckacres.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-mighty-fortress-is-my-garden.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. A mighty fortress is my garden. I wasn't too upset about the broccoli, as I had harvested the main heads a while back and the side shoots were petering out. But the sweet potatoes - argh! And, to add insult to injury, *something* chomped the branches on one of my new cherry trees. Double argh! I planned to protect them from winter injury by rabbits but I did not expect to have to worry about summer damage. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States.
Woodchuck Acres: Who needs television?
http://woodchuckacres.blogspot.com/2008/12/who-needs-television.html
Saturday, December 20, 2008. A "free" day can hang on some like a burden, but not me. On the one hand, it's an opportunity to do nothing, and I'm always up for that. On the other, why waste it? My free day included a project, a chore, and an emergency. The original plans for the new room included a spot for the litter box, but I did not want it out in the open. Enter the "cat washroom" from Plow and Hearth. It arrived the other day, but some (all) assembly was required. But what the hey. Now, the chore.

Woodchuck Acres: Starting to feel like summer
http://woodchuckacres.blogspot.com/2009/06/starting-to-feel-like-summer.html
Sunday, June 21, 2009. Starting to feel like summer. There is something in the air, a shift in temperature and humidity and universal vibe, that occurs in June and that makes us say, "NOW it feels like summer! It is still not brutally hot or suffocatingly humid, but it is also no longer springlike out there. Or maybe it is the firecrackers. The latest love of my life is this:. The daylilies are starting to bloom. This is Stella:. My love/hate relationship continues with my neighbor's mulberry tree. I...

A collection of misguided and spontaneous adventures. Landing a job in the US – the E3 Visa (For Australian Nationals). April 30, 2015. The constant yearning to explore the world, meet new people and experience new cultures is hard to shake. Wanderlust. It’s a beautiful thing. The Commonwealth working holiday visas, being granted an E3 is easier than you may think. Web development with teeth and claws! Docker frustration on Windows. I've been using VMs for development for a long time but I've only recently looked into using Docker. I like the idea of a nice containerised VM that can be created quickly and discarded when not needed leaving my computer's resources free for more important things like cat videos. After a montage worthy of Rocky I ended up with a basic web stack created from a docker-compose.yml. And then I tried to use it. And here's where things didn'...
