Rachel's REED 430 Blog. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Comprehension and Think Alouds. I believe that this will make comprehension lessons relateable and fun for younger. June 21, 2011 at 2:12 PM. I love having something to go by that is very organized and laid out, and tells you exactly what to do next. Although, I hav...

I think a lot of teachers don't realize the importance of starting to develop reading comprehension at this age. Making connections is mentioned in several of the articles and I think that is extremely important. I love the idea of the "Velcro Theory" and sticking ideas to your brain so you can remember them. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Schema is stressed in all of the readings and rightfully so. How can we expect students to make sense of anything if they do not see a way to connect their new knowledge to prior readings? I really enjoyed the examples given in this article, I was able to see how they could dramatically influence the comprehension levels of students and it gave me multiple ideas for engaging student knowledge.
