bigcarper: Dedicated follower of fashion
http://bigcarper.blogspot.com/2008/06/dedicated-follower-of-fashion.html
Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Dedicated follower of fashion. NOW I’m no fashion guru. You can write what I know about Sir Paul Smith’s latest creations on a pin head. And as someone who used to wear dessert boots, bell bottoms and an ankle-length leather trench coat, I’m probably the last person on the planet to criticise anyone. You tell me, what is all that about? I must admit, I never did get Mrs Gertrude “Ascot hats” Shilling. But at least she was a character. Men are required to wear morning suit, nation...

http://eamonngavigan.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-many-men-does-it-take-to-make-hole.html
Nottingham - Local News. Wednesday, 16 July 2008. How many men does it take to make a hole three inches in diameter and about six inches deep? Well, if they are from the Royal and Ancient, eight. One to hold the tape, one to press the contraption which makes the hole into the ground and six to make sure they are doing it right. They must have been higher up the ladder than the two labourers. They had their hands in their pockets, a sure sign they must be bosses. It took about an hour to make the decision...

bigcarper: Jim’ll fix it
http://bigcarper.blogspot.com/2008/06/jimll-fix-it.html
Monday, 30 June 2008. Jim’ll fix it. I MUST admit I shed a tear or two this morning when I found out that the dear old Queen couldn’t afford to decorate Buckingham Palace. She’s apparently got leaky roofs, deadly asbestos, damaged guttering and dicky electrics and hasn’t touched a paint brush since 1948. (Should have got Rolf Harris on the job instead of wasting his talents on that royal portrait). After all, plenty have been knighted for doing less. Now then, now then. The Royal Train alone sets us back...

Matt Halfpenny: Unity at Stags is encouraging for future
http://matthalfpenny.blogspot.com/2009/02/unity-at-stags-is-encouraging-for.html
Monday, 9 February 2009. Unity at Stags is encouraging for future. MANSFIELD Town are a club who have taken a hell of a lot of criticism over recent seasons. During the Keith Haslam era, the Stags never seemed to be far from the headlines for all the wrong reasons. And even though the new board have been in charge for just a matter of months, they have already had their problems, not least when the club were deducted four points for fielding ineligible players early in the season. Given that Friday’...

Matt Halfpenny: Adlington legacy just won't last
http://matthalfpenny.blogspot.com/2008/08/adlington-legacy-just-wont-last.html
Wednesday, 13 August 2008. Adlington legacy just won't last. CALL it coincidence, but Water Meadows in Mansfield was packed yesterday morning after Rebecca Adlington’s Olympic gold medal swim on Monday. Admittedly, the ‘baths’, as they call them round my way, are significantly busier during the school holidays. It was also raining outside, so there was not much chance of getting out on the local park with jumpers for goalposts either. What would particularly please me is to see more kids diving in at the...

Matt Halfpenny: Mansfield Town - that sinking feeling
http://matthalfpenny.blogspot.com/2008/04/mansfield-town-that-sinking-feeling.html
Wednesday, 30 April 2008. Mansfield Town - that sinking feeling. I will never forget the goal that effectively relegated Mansfield from the Football League. It was one of those goals you see on compilation DVDs. One of those once-a-season efforts that defies explanation. As soon as Jamie Yates’ 40-yard lob from out on the right touchline had beaten the back-pedaling Jason White to nestle in the back of the net, I knew it was all over for the Stags. These days, you get what you pay for in football, so it ...

American Impressions: English hospitality
http://eveningpoststephaniefosnight.blogspot.com/2008/04/english-hospitality.html
Wednesday, April 9, 2008. As a journalist accustomed to reporting the news, at first I was dubious about being in an Evening Post feature. But the response since the article. Was published last week has been wonderful. Sure, there were a few slightly rude comments on the Web version, but they weren’t too bad. I was very touched that one reader even apologized for the other Brits’ sarcasm! 8221; but I can’t get annoyed because folks genuinely want to hear the answer. Rain and English reserve may be real b...

Rob Parsons: A decent costume is a bear necessity
http://eveningpostrobparsons.blogspot.com/2008/02/decent-costume-is-bear-necessity.html
Wednesday, 27 February 2008. A decent costume is a bear necessity. It's always nice to learn something new, even if that something means exposing yourself to humiliation. My lesson this week? Entertaining children isn't as easy as you would imagine. As part of Nottingham Castle's attempt to stage a world record gathering of Robin Hoods on March 8. I was invited to come and dress up as Robin Hood along with Heart 106 DJs Sam and Amy at Bluebell Hill Primary School in St Ann's. The result looked like somet...

Rob Parsons: April 2008
http://eveningpostrobparsons.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 6 April 2008. Will I ever get my hands on Glastonbury tickets? Is anyone else out there in Glastonbury ticket-buying hell? I only ask as a little communal whingeing might make me feel better as I tear my hair out in pursuit of a pass to this year's festival. It's now getting on for midday on Sunday - for the last three hours I have been clicking my mouse and pressing redial on my phone to the point of repetitive strain injury. Things are not going well. How could this be? Essentially, this means ...
