January | 2010 | Grown-up Piano

Piano Lessons at an Older Age. Moments and “mud” moments. January 22, 2010. There are a lot of things that I really enjoy about learning the piano – the tactile practice that has been sorely lacking from most of my fairly cerebral life, the learning of new concepts and ideas, the beautiful music, the ability to be a “show-off” to friends once in a while. But near the top of the list is a thing I call the WHOA! I had that WHOA! Now not all moments are WHOA! Moments for me when I can sit down and play (wit...

Piano Lessons at an Older Age. Easy Classics To Moderns and Intro to Classics to Moderns. After doing some research I discovered that there’s an even EASIER book in the same series, called Introduction to Classics to Moderns, whose pieces I COULD sightread somewhat more easily. This book has been a lot of fun to play through – I especially enjoy Kabalevsy’s pieces aimed for children, like the “Bear Dance”. Sightreading vs. “Sightplaying” | Grown-up Piano
https://grownuppiano.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/sightreading-vs-sightplaying
Piano Lessons at an Older Age. Sightreading vs. “Sightplaying”. Over the next year I hope to become much more proficient in sightreading. My first teacher did not emphasize sightreading at all, and so I went for nearly a year without much instruction or improvement in that area. My new teacher has insisted that I devote significant practice to this area. This entry was posted on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at 8:18 pm and is filed under Uncategorized. Feed You can leave a response. We all know examples of blind pianists such as Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles who obviously do not benefit from looking at the keyboard. Those who have taken years and years of piano lessons seem to have an innate awareness of the keyboard and their hands just jump into position. Five reasons to look at your hands when you perform:.
