Howdon Blogger: January 2015

http://howdonblogger.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Big Waters 25 Jan 15 Big Garden Birdwatch. Once again I helped out with the bird counting and took responsibility for Pinkies, of which there was "1" but didn't think you would want to see another shot of one (actually I couldn't better last weeks great picture! And a new species for the year the Yellow-faced Wigeon, now I know there will be the dissenters who will automatically say hybrid but I will speak to the "Auditor" (Mr B). Although this one is slightly better. Of cours...

Howdon Blogger: The Weekend's Antics

http://howdonblogger.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-weekends-antics.html

Monday, 8 June 2015. I got beaten by a Tortoise in my last race so what chance have I got now. Damn, little BHGs could be due right next to the Common Terns nests. I've watched other Birds doing this so thought I might give it a go for. 30mins or so and see if I can pick up a small titbit. Down from 8 to 6 but has also cleared the pond of the other Swans and now rules the roost. First Large Red Damselfly of the year. Quite a few around even with the high winds, just a pretty picture. I noticed 2 Godwits ...

Howdon Blogger: Big Waters Update

http://howdonblogger.blogspot.com/2015/05/big-waters-update.html

Saturday, 16 May 2015. Once again my week has been rather full of work, work and more work. Haven't even got round to doing the ironing, hoovering or the garden yet, although I did manage to sort my pictures from last weekends visit to Big Waters were we had a great walk round on Sunday adding Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat and Swift to the Patch List. So here are a few pictures from the day. Plenty of singing Sedge Warblers. A very short video of a Sedge Warbler singing and Birders talking. Northern Ex...

Rowlands Gill Birder: A Trip Up the Coast was not Disappointing!

http://rowlandsgillbirder.blogspot.com/2010/03/trip-up-coast-was-not-disappointing_05.html

Friday, 5 March 2010. A Trip Up the Coast was not Disappointing! Organised a day trip up the. With Ewan "The Useless" Miles. To go see some birdies. Ewan has gained this nickname as he is absolutely pants at organising. I mean he couldn't organise flies to fly round dog doo! Anyway set off mine at around 11am and headed for Longhirst Flash in hope of a lingering Bewick’s Swan. Arrived to find 36 Whooper Swan. On the fields behind the flash and in the foreground a Magpie. And a Carrion Crow. Were reported...

Wild Big Waters: Weekly Update: Arrivals and Battles

http://wildbigwaters.blogspot.com/2014/11/weekly-update-arrivals-and-battles.html

Saturday, 1 November 2014. Weekly Update: Arrivals and Battles. The unseasonably warm weather continues with temperatures reaching record levels for the end of October. Although workload has meant I have not spent as much time at Big Waters as I would like there were a few nice sightings and a few winter visitors arriving and even a little unusual behavior from the residents. Mute Swans commence battle (click to enlarge). Whooper Swans (click to enlarge). Unfortunately on my return to the reserve later i...

Wild Big Waters: Weekly Update: Short But Sweet

http://wildbigwaters.blogspot.com/2014/11/weekly-update-short-but-sweet.html

Monday, 24 November 2014. Weekly Update: Short But Sweet. The last few weeks has seen my business take up huge amounts of my time. Unfortunately this has meant I have not managed to visit Big Waters as much as I would like, but last week I managed to get a few hours to visit and see what had changed in the time I was away. It was nice to finally get a few hours away from work to see Alan and Dan, also to catch up on what I had missed since my last visit 2 weeks ago. More updates to follow soon. At the st...

Wild Big Waters: October 2014

http://wildbigwaters.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 23 October 2014. Weekly update: Rainbows and Wrens. This week has been interesting, both weather wise and with sightings at Big Waters. The usual suspects were in the feeding area and on the lake but a few less common visitors also made appearances. After a weekend in Bamburgh which yielded great photographs of treecreepers and great spotted woodpeckers my hopes of more photographs at Big Waters were high. READ THE FULL POST. Natures Moments: January 2013

http://joesnaturesmoments.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 12 January 2013. Just finished my dinner as I looked out of the dining room window to see this fella looking for his,he is quite a patient chap always allowing me time to get the camera from the bag ,open the back door and fire off a few frames. He was unlucky today as the Goldfinch gave him the slip. His new strategy now is to walk along the fence looking into the beech hedge to see who if any are hiding before going in after them. Wednesday, 9 January 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
