Kayla's Blog: Teacher Inquiry Project : Teaching Textbooks

http://klinowski.blogspot.com/2009/11/teacher-inquiry-project-teaching.html

Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Teacher Inquiry Project : Teaching Textbooks. My project discusses the idea of whether or not basil textbooks should be used in a classroom. Several questions that I asked myself about this topic are:. 1 How are students able to grasp the concepts of stories when there are only small pieces of the story in the textbook? 2 Would students rather read from a textbook or from novels and handouts? These questions a general view of what I have been thinking about for my project.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009. I just finished reading Persepolis, I an enjoyed it. I like reading stories (or watching movies) that are based on true stories, or someone's life. November 4, 2009 at 3:37 PM. I think this would bring up some interesting discussions in a classroom as well. Im interested to see even what we discuss in our own classroom. http://klinowski.blogspot.com/2009/12/harry-potter.html

Tuesday, December 1, 2009. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that not all students have read this novel, so as teachers, we can't assume that everyone is going to be prepared for it. I also liked that Glazner pointed out that we need to go beyond gender, class, and race when dealing with diversity. As I said before, we are not going to be able to cover every issue, but I think it is important to do the best that we can at exposing our students to many different types of diversity. Kayla's Blog: Twilight

http://klinowski.blogspot.com/2009/11/twilight.html

Wednesday, November 18, 2009. I had already seen the movie for "Twilight", so already had an idea of what to expect in the story. I still enjoyed the book, and had it read in a couple days. It's, or course, a typical love story, with some twists. November 18, 2009 at 9:53 AM. November 18, 2009 at 11:10 AM. Im curious if either reading the entire book or watching the entire movie is useful in the classroom at all? November 18, 2009 at 11:55 AM. November 18, 2009 at 2:51 PM. http://klinowski.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 27, 2009. I have to say that I really enjoyed this novel. However, I have always been interesting in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, so it wasn't surprising to me. I think this novel would be interesting to compare with "The Diary of Anne Frank". It would give two different aspects of the time period and what things were going on. Here is the URL if anyone is interested in watching the trailer : http:/ www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi751566873/. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. As far as teaching ...

Friday, October 23, 2009. The Book Thief and "A Class Divided". Well, first off, I LOVED The Book Thief. I started out struggling with it - the constant interruptions by our narrator were a bit distracting at first, but I got used to it quickly. It took me a while to get really into it, but I balled my eyes out the last 75 or so pages! After watching "A Class Divided," I must say, I was stunned. Stunned that a teacher had the guts (and the OK from administration? Monday, October 12, 2009. I thought the a...

http://alitpaige.blogspot.com/2009/10/american-born-chinese.html

Tuesday, October 13, 2009. The only other graphic novel I read was, "Mouse," in tenth grade. It connected with the novel, "Night," which I remember thinking how awesome it was that our teacher did that, especially since we were so sick of Holocaust books and learning about it. But "Mouse" brought in a new element and we were able to discuss the two books much easier than we were with just reading "Night.". October 14, 2009 at 10:08 AM. October 14, 2009 at 11:48 AM.
