Racing, riding and adventure by bike. Life doesn’t always go to plan. It’s been a bad few months for me. Next to no riding has been done and frankly, i’m not sure it ever will again. My back had been on and off again sore, and eventually I said enough is enough and poked my GP until he ordered an MRI. Turns out i’ve ruptured L5-S1 disc which is compressing nerves intermittently and leaving me thankful for those days I can walk without pain. GO RIDE YOUR BIKE, IT’S RAD! Racing, riding and adventure by bike. This is a photo dump from a quick exploring trip around Bulahdelah. I ran out of light in the end and had turn around before I wanted to but not before I stumbled into some amazing trails and found several more in need of a good ‘sploring. As soon as this rain stops, i’m going back for more! Im calling bullshit on this one. There was still HAB involved. Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013 at 7:27 pm. High as a kite « the unknown rider

Racing, riding and adventure by bike. High as a kite. The racers kept pushing. Crashing and falling off again as sleep addled reflexes struggled to deal with the crushing lows that come in the predawn. Keep pushing. Must get to the train station. Must get this over with. Must make this end. Simply because it was there, which seems as good a reason as any. The raucous colours of the joyous fabric carving graceful arcs through the morning sky. Simple pleasures in a complex world. We gritted our teeth. ...

How to HAB on the Big HuRT « the unknown rider

Racing, riding and adventure by bike. How to HAB on the Big HuRT. There have been lots of things written about cycling over the years, however not very many of them apply to the Big HuRT. In the immortal words of AK “It isn’t a mountain bike race. I don’t know what it is, but it isn’t a mountain bike race”. Of course, there is the fancy euro across the shoulder technique ( @ 1:05. 2 How I carry the bike depends on whether I am going uphill or downhill. Since you more than likely wearing a camel back whil...

Full moon ride number 2. « the unknown rider

Racing, riding and adventure by bike. Full moon ride number 2. For those that were there, a knowing smile passes between us when we talk about the first full moon ride. Utterly, completely, amazingly ridiculous. It’s hard to plan epic storms weeks in advance and despite my own rump shaking rain dances (performed in the anonymity of my house mind you), rain failed to materialise and we were left to pedal dry powdery sand this time around. Racing, riding and adventure by bike. Making friends: Bulga to Sheep Skin Hut & return. Sometimes when you plan a ride a couple of weeks out, everything lines up and it is winter sunshine and cloudless skies. Other times, you look at the weather forecast with 4 days to go and realise it’s going to be a total crap shoot. Cold, raining and miserable. Then someone goes and invokes rule #5. Which leaves you with little choice but to pack some warm clothes and some chain lube. We were rolling past some farm p...

Cycloblogger: Buck Hill Cyclocross
http://www.cycloblogger.info/2009/09/buck-hill-cyclocross.html
This is our world on two wheels. Sunday, September 27, 2009. Ben Kraft and I carpooled to Mecklenburg, arriving at about 9am. I had some hope of competing in the masters category, since after all I am 31 and according to page 5 of the UCI rulebook. What I liked so much about the event was the interaction with the bystanders. That sweet sound of cowbell made the day. Ernie was also rooting a lot for me, and that made me want to keep on pushing.
