Liz Harris' Blog: Dog Licking

http://lizharrisblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/dog-licking.html

Thursday, January 20, 2011. 8220;Will, is the dog the same? 8220;Yeah Mom, I walked her but it didn’t help. Why don’t you just take her to the vet? 8220;Because the last time I did it cost eighty five dollars and all I found out was that her ears were bothering her. I already knew that.” replied Mom. 8220;Well it’s been two weeks. We can’t let her keep licking and rubbing like that.”. 8220;Have you tried looking it up on the internet? 8221; asked Alison. “Remember when she had a tick? 8221; asked Mom.

Liz Harris' Blog: Pier 21 - 5 Senses

http://lizharrisblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/pier-21-5-senses.html

Thursday, January 20, 2011. Pier 21 - 5 Senses. On a cold wet morning in May our ship landed at Halifax. It had been a long and slow passage across the Atlantic. Halifax was a small gray city strung out along the shores of a great harbour. There were rusty clusters of buildings around the dock yards and landing piers full of activity. 8220;Have your documents ready! 8221; We couldn’t speak English but another passenger translated for us. I’d have given anything to be home. March 25, 2011 at 9:25 AM.

Liz Harris' Blog: Shelburne

http://lizharrisblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/shelburne.html

Thursday, January 20, 2011. Rude hut of degradation. Hauled water, chipped ice. Gathered dead fall burning. One eye open for a decade. What will be will be. What has been has been. My future -others decisions. Wide eyes face east. Past hopes and ragged huts abandoned. Leading to the dark. From pan to fire. Same flames different burns. Wind blew cold and bold in adopted land. Wind blows hot and steady in ancestral foothold. Does somebody know my name. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The day I fell.

Liz Harris' Blog: Out In the Cold

http://lizharrisblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/out-in-cold.html

Thursday, January 20, 2011. Out In the Cold. We’re in the grade 5 hallway putting on our coats, hats, mittens and boots. I have yellow, green, blue, red and white moon boots. Well, they’re almost moon boots anyway. They look just like real moon boots, but my Mom bought them at K-Mart and the name brand on them is Toonboots. Susan is so jealous! I wish I could be the most popular girl in grade 5 instead of her. Everyone hangs on every word that she says. I pull on my brown. She pulled a white wooly coat f...

Liz Harris' Blog: Summer’s End

http://lizharrisblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/summers-end.html

Thursday, January 20, 2011. Miniature blooms of tear drop shaped joy. Purple as popsicles or stained bridesmaid’s satin pumps. Fall’s triumph over death,. Stubbornly thriving when all else shrinks and fades. Countless clusters of variegated plenty,. Standing proudly framed by lush leaves. Green and spiny with life blood’s vein of light sugar. Created and shaped like Adam’s fig. Woody branches implied but never seen. Snowflakes of fall in endless variety,. Some dark, some light, some undecided.

Emily's Writing Blog: The Gym

http://emilythompson1.blogspot.com/p/gym.html

I walk into the gym at 4:55pm. The Body Combat class that I want to go to does not start until 5:30pm and there are already five people in line. I think to myself, I have time to get changed and then get in line. The gym has been very busy since the New Year and it is like a competition just trying to get a space in a class. Upon returning, the line is huge. I. Cannot believe this has happened. Have I lost my chance to go to the class now? There are now 25 people in line. Does that not matter? On this ev...

Emily's Writing Blog: Shoes

http://emilythompson1.blogspot.com/p/shoes.html

Dark pink Franco Sarto flats, with a silver buckle. Bran new this past summer, great to wear for any occasional fancy or fun. Rain boots ankles height covered with stars. Great to wear on grey and rainy days, brings a little light to the day. Brown metallic boots that zip up and go to the top of shin. They make my feet hurt, but I love to wear them. They make me look taller and my legs slimmer. Black flat sandals with a bow. At least seven years old. The leather on the sole of the shoe is peeling. It too...

Emily's Writing Blog: Mix Kitchen

http://emilythompson1.blogspot.com/p/mix-kitchen.html

You might want to try this new restaurant, even though my first impression was not spectacular. On Friday night I went to Mix Kitchen. This is a new restaurant by Chef Ray Bear. I was excited to try a new restaurant, but I was a bit sceptical about it because of my previous experience trying to make a reservation about three weeks before. I met my dinner club friends at about 6:30 on Friday night. When I arrived a hostess did greet me and showed me to the table. Going out for dinner is not just eating.
