Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: Females of Note
http://mrsmiddletonstalesfromthebookrom.blogspot.com/2015/05/females-of-note.html
Saturday, 30 May 2015. Now you are four- so grown up with a little sister to look after. I love this pic that Mummy shared when you got Annabel's new shoes. When people ask me what you are like, it is quite hard not to seem biased seeing as how I'm your Grand-mother. However, I say with all confidence in my partiality that you have all the makings of a Woman of Note. My reasons for this are:-. 1Your sense of humour. 2 The way you address everybody you meet and include them in your world. Well, I shall re...

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: February 2015
http://mrsmiddletonstalesfromthebookrom.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 17 February 2015. Keeping Mum about Sherlock. Maybe it's got something to do with the nature of our local history that makes the West Wight good at keeping secrets. The long history of Smuggling gave up few secrets, in Chale for example, whole conversations could be had on one level- that had 'secret codes' in a local patua only understood by those in the trade. Queen Victoria came and went- un-noticed in a Brougham and walked about the High Down with Tennyson according to Harold Nicholson.

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: "It's got some Age to It"- Perfect Perfection.
http://mrsmiddletonstalesfromthebookrom.blogspot.com/2015/06/its-got-some-age-to-it-perfect.html
Wednesday, 17 June 2015. It's got some Age to It"- Perfect Perfection. The first part of the title of this post, is a bit of a Bookseller's term. Yes, I know I'm getting all book-shoppy speaky- but hey, so I shall. The last bit belongs to Julia Margaret Cameron in a letter to Henry Cole (more of which last the end of this post.). Anyhow, it's a phrase I've heard Mike say several times, and its something I've been relating to my life and even me in my early antiquity. I've always liked to have a muse or t...

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: July 2015

Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Six Impossible Things before Breakfast- Freshwater Style. It was lovely to see you and Annabel this weekend. I shall always remember telling you off in a very serious voice "Emily, we do not. Bite Biting people is not. Polite," and how you looked at me equally seriously and said "GiGi, did you know that rhymes? 1 The Truffle- part One-. All of a sudden- a voice is heard coming from the shop "Oi- Oi-where's the red-haired girl? And a man appears bearing gifts. We are all absorbed ...

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: January 2015
http://mrsmiddletonstalesfromthebookrom.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 29 January 2015. Knee deep in some research currently regarding Secret Societies and their Island history, I was delighted to discover one today- that's right up my Carrollian street! The 'Larky-Lot' met for the season at West-Cliff House. With members from society local and on North-Island (near where you live for example Em) their motto was Semper Roare. Tongue-in-cheek bunch, they wrote verse, drew cartoons and generally involved themselves in silliness. There was a young person of Norton.

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: December 2014
http://mrsmiddletonstalesfromthebookrom.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 December 2014. It was fun talking to you on Christmas eve. I shall need to tell you something about my 'conversation' with Father Christmas (who arrived just out of face-time frame) one day- but that can wait. It was also charming to see Annabel's delight- again on face-time over her favourite gift- a music-box that played 'La Vie en Rose'- GiGi's favourite piece and sentiment. Oh, the magical joys for children at Christmas. Though I haven't read it since I was about thirteen, something about...

Mrs Middletons Tales from The Bookroom: June 2015

Thursday, 25 June 2015. With my tongue firmly in cheek, a soupcon of self-parody and a sprinkling of Freshwater Fairy-dust I thought we'd celebrate our half-birthday at Mrs Middleton's Shop with a recipe. Dough- Very little indeed. Fermentation- Brew until the time is right. Oil- For pouring on troubled water. Water- enough not to dampen spirit. A pinch of Magic-Dust (essential). Method- Or how we made ours. On account of there being hardly any dough- the kneading will necessitate an artisanal approach).
