Monday, January 29, 2007. Memorize or otherwise possess a presentable coherent knowledge of great lines 441-581 in Antigone. These focus on the 5 combative pairings: man v. woman, young v. old, individual v. society, living v. dead, and men v. gods. Instead of saying "what's new? For the first test we must know Antigone p 231 -277. According to Dr. Sexson, inspiration for great plays are the responsibility of women from coffee houses and the local news. Origionary - not in the dictionary, but should be!

Wednesday, March 07, 2007. While Plato's Symposium can be discussed in many ways, I will in place of mere notes express my own arguments and positions. But first, some notes. Socratic Irony, a discrepancy between what is said and what is meant. A picture of Kachina dolls. I believe our professor intended to use Russian Nesting Dolls as an example of the Frame Within a Frame. A man and woman made philosophy. Who were they? Probably a test question. A: Because he had the hiccups. Probably a test question.

Origin nation: January 2007

Friday, January 26, 2007. Poetry, therefore, is a more philosophical and a higher thing than history: for poetry tends to express the universal, history the particular" -Aristotle,. When Aristotle uses the term "poetry" in poetics, it is in reference to a wide medium of artistic expressions including literature and drama, like the stories that we're reading in class. Isn't it ironic that underneath the "particulars" of history ("what's new", at the present) lurks poetry ("what's old)? Micheal Sexson- "Ma...

Wednesday, May 02, 2007. How can we explain a musician like Neil Young, whose moment in the spot light has long since past, still being appreciated and respected by my generation, while many of his colleagues from that period go unrecognized? Why is it that ten years from now, English Professors will not be teaching A million little pieces as part of their curriculum, but the classics that have been taught for ages will remain in the curriculum? Where do we draw the line between trendy and timeless?

The Foundations of Lit. are in Fact Classical! Monday, April 2, 2007. How is a person who has been asked to read the entire book of The Metamorphoses of Ovid supposed to pick and choose and narrow down 550 pages full of words into just five lines? Well, since we were asked.I chose my five lines from my favorite story, Pyramus and Thisbe. I let you be the first who would arrive. O all you lions with your liars beneath. This cliff, come now, and with your fierce jaws feast. Upon my wretched guts!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010. I've been busily working away at my paper since spring break and have not updated my blog accordingly. I have notes for several fun blog posts but I'm going to delay them until after I'm finished with my writing. It really is the priority. I find I'm kind of shy about sharing poetry when it feels "rough". Even though I'm nowhere near finished, I should have some good selections of my poem which will remain largely unchanged at this point. So, until I'm finished with my paper.
