Our Produce Box: April 2010

http://producebox.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

We do with all this produce? Wednesday, April 28, 2010. I cleaned out our kitchen freezer the other day and found several frozen, shriveled bananas. You know, the dark overripe ones you toss in the freezer thinking youll do something with them later? I decided it must be later. Id show you a picture of my frozen banana stash, but overripe bananas gross me out a little. I just have to remind myself of the tasty baked goods that come of them! Wednesday, April 14, 2010. How to find a CSA. It's usually a pre...

We do with all this produce? Thursday, September 30, 2010. Turn rice into entertainment: DIY I Spy Toy. A bit of a departure from the recipes today- although rice is featured! There are some gorgeous handmade fabric I Spy bags out there that I've picked up as gifts in the past (my favorites are here. But I thought I'd try my hand at a cheap and easy homemade version. As it turns out, it's not hard at all to make your own I Spy toy. Now you're ready to hunt! It was a perfect distraction on our recent long...

Our Produce Box: July 2010

http://producebox.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

We do with all this produce? Thursday, July 29, 2010. The zucchini has arrived! This little combo is one of my go-to basic side dishes in the summer. Its quick and doesnt involve the oven (too hot! And Ive found the tomato-basil-parmesan combo to be pretty palatable for most kids. Let some garlic get the party started. Add the zucchini for a minute. The green onions get all up in. Finish with tomatoes, basil,. Recipe below; printable version here. Monday, July 26, 2010. Quinoa Salad with Sugar Snap Peas.

Our Produce Box: Watermelon Popsicles

http://producebox.blogspot.com/2010/09/watermelon-popsicles.html

We do with all this produce? Tuesday, September 14, 2010. The warm weather came back for one last September fling, so the kids and I decided to make our own watermelon popsicles. We started with some yellow watermelon we had on hand. The kids get cutely excited about yellow watermelon. It tastes just like pink! We chopped up the melon and ran it through our food mill. After adding a spash of lime juice, we poured it into the popsicle molds. A few hours in the freezer and we were done! DON'T MISS A RECIPE.

Our Produce Box

We do with all this produce? Saturday, October 23, 2010. Friends, I apologize for my absence here. My camera is broken! A disaster for a food blogger! Searching through old photos, I found this (not-so-great) one of my favorite autumn dinner: stuffed acorn squash. Today a brisk wind is blowing the leaves from the trees, the sun is shining, the air is crisp: this dish is a perfect match. Enjoy this autumn meal while I figure out this camera mess! Receipe below; printable version here. Next, take inventory...

The Produce Box Experiment | Girl + Box of Produce

The Produce Box Experiment. June 1, 2011 at 7:51 PM · Filed under Blueberries. Today is June first and the first day of the New Orleans Eat Local Challenge 2011. The basic premise of The Challenge is that you only eat foods grown and prepared within 200 miles of New Orleans. I decided that this would tie-in nicely with my attempt to eat mainly from my Hollygrove. For breakfast I had Bittersweet Plantation. So what did I learn today? I need to eat different foods (nutritionally) and probably a little bit ...
