An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. Delicious and Library Thing. October 2, 2009. Last session was on Delicious and Library Thing- both really useful tools. I have often been frustrated with using ‘bookmarks’ or ‘favourites’, so Delicious is a big improvement. I like the fact that you can organise/catergorise your links, which makes them so much easier to find! Now I finally know what a ‘tag cloud’ is too! September 11, 2009. I added all the 23Things blogs, but also chose a few of my own&#4...

An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. September 11, 2009. This week we learnt about RSS Feeds. Although I have used RSS feeds before I didn’t actually know what the term stood for, ‘Really Simple Syndication’. We added RSS feeds through Google Reader- another tool which I didn’t know about until now and which I will make use of in the future. I’ll have to leave this post ‘to be continued’, for now. September 11, 2009. September 4, 2009. I think this is fairly natural though. Setting goals als...

An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. October 26, 2009. On Friday our ‘Thing’ was podcasting! I haven’t had much experience with this, so it was interesting to learn (I even managed to get the online tutorial to work, when it wasn’t playing for many other people! I haven’t really used iTunes much either, but I got the hang of it eventually. I found an interesting podcast on philosophy, with some interesting topics (part of an online learning programme) . I also subscibed to Will@Warick.

An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. Facebook: a book where men may read strange matters. November 26, 2009. Whilst wracking my brain for a catchy title for this post, you cannot imagine how excited I was to realise that ‘facebook’, as a term, appears to derrive from the well known turn of phrase popularized by none other that, you guessed it, Shakespeare! I mean, how awesome is that? Shakespeare and Facebook are connected. That’s right folks- you heard it here first. What’s in a meme? It&#8...

What’s in a meme? | Thelibraryelf's Blog

https://thelibraryelf.wordpress.com/2009/11/13/whats-in-a-meme

An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. What’s in a meme? November 13, 2009. Well, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for another Shakespeare reference. During this session I was introduced to the term meme. What does Shakespeare have to do with memes you ask? Well, it might be pushing it and, as I have such a limited knowledge of the concept of what a meme is, it could also be wrong, but couldn’t we see Shakespeare’ s phrase as a meme? The Library Edition

Tuesday, October 5, 2010. In my first year of studying for my Masters of Teaching Librarianship I took two subjects, ETL401 and ETL501. These subjects provided an overview of the role of the teacher librarian and their effect on the school community. 8221; (Park, 2001, p 19) and this rings true for teacher librarians as well. By knowing the Standards and working towards them, teacher librarians can improve their teaching and the outcomes for students in their care. Haycock, K. (2003). The crisis ...Henri...

An elf's journey through the 23 Things programme. December 4, 2009. Quite a bit- as evidenced by the pictures on my blog! I am also pleased to say that I have now conquerred my fear of Twitter. I still think it’s slightly evil, but thanks to my new-found technological powers I feel confident in defeating the forces of evil that lurk online, in that space we call ‘the web’. (Doesn’t that word make you shudder at it’s ominous and seemingly unboundless power? December 3, 2009. In this game you were given a ...

Sunday, July 24, 2011. Accessorizing for the Steam Ball. Any lady will likely agree that wardrobe and accessories are of great importance. I've got the Steam Ball at Authors After Dark to prepare for and I'm looking forward to wearing fabulous jewelry from Dark Side Customs. For example, I have a custom torc very similar to this one. My dashing escort will be sporting his first in steampunk accessories as well, a gentleman's ring very similar to the one shown here. Are you jealous yet? So, as some of you...

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Books: my running and reading list. Guys, there are SO many books I want to read. I certainly don't have as much time to read as I would like, or as I used to. (There's that whole baby. It's going to be a great way to motivate myself to run. So, on that note, I thought I'd share the next few books in line on my to-read list! I cannot wait to listen to Wil Wheaton read this audiobook! I've read Ernest Cline's first book, Ready Player One. I read the Percy Jackson. Aside from the...

Monday, March 24, 2014. Divergent VS. Hunger Games. I have read all of the Hunger Games (Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay) by Suzanne Collins and really enjoyed them. I just finished Divergent by Veronica Roth and can say I liked that too. But what I want to know- what is with all the guns and killing? I understand teen novels tend to have more angst than say, adult fiction. Both had a bit of that in them. But the whole teen as killer thing seems to be a new trend in Young Adult Fiction. I kno...
