Thoughts and projects from my sewing room. Sunday, August 23, 2009. Pantone Colors for Spring Coloring. Sunday, August 23, 2009 1. I have been matching the Pantone colors with my best colors. I have light red hair, brown eyes and light-to-medium skin color. In the American Color Me Beautiful system, I am a spring; however, in the European version I am a warm/soft. My color varies slightly based on how recently I have dyed my hair, so I wear the softer colors as the color washes out. Links to this post.

The Sewing Journal: Window Shopping

http://thesewingjournal.blogspot.com/2009/07/window-shopping.html

Thoughts and projects from my sewing room. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. I went to a high-end mall last night. The anchor stores are Nordstoms and Neiman Marcus. First I have to say I love trying on clothes at expensive stores. I wear clothes two sizes smaller than at the chain stores. Great for the ego! I was amazed at the difference good fabric made in the way a garment looks on the body. Things that I thought I couldn't wear looked great because of the drape of the fabric. ...6 Mak...

Thoughts and projects from my sewing room. Friday, March 27, 2009. Friday, March 27, 2009 2. I need to replace my wardrobe, everything is either worn out or doesn't fit properly. The research that I have been doing indicates that one should first look at their activities or lifestyle to determine what clothes they need. I first started with the things that I do (I decided to keep this list to 10 things.). 1 sleep (I need clothes for this since I don't sleep in the buff). 2 hanging out at home. 7 dressy c...

Thoughts and projects from my sewing room. Friday, July 10, 2009. Friday, July 10, 2009 4. Edited July 13, 2009. I wanted to let everyone know that I heard from Ann at Gorgeous Fabrics about my post. She generously resolved this issue, and explained the cost of the swatches to me. In case anyone else has misunderstood, the cost of the swatch covers the shipping. I also wanted to make clear that I love the knit prints that I received. Is a great idea if anyone else has sheer knit. I love this jersey!

Angel Feather Farm: Tropical Storm Colin

http://www.angelfeatherfarm.com/2016/06/tropical-storm-colin.html

Life on a Central Florida Homestead. Monday, June 6, 2016. I spent the last couple of days preparing for tropical storm Colin. Fortunately it was not a strong storm, and we have received less rain than we expected. I have been able to do farm chores between the rain bands. Although I am close to the coast, I am far enough inland that I was not affected by the storm surge that has caused flooding in other areas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Angel Feather Farm: Damage

http://www.angelfeatherfarm.com/2016/06/damage.html

Life on a Central Florida Homestead. Tuesday, June 7, 2016. This is what I woke up to this morning. A huge old tree fell from the winds on the back side of tropical storm Colin. The main trunk fell between two of the goose pens and stretches across the paddock to the chicken coops. Remarkably, all the geese and chickens are alive. I found my geese in that one little corner of their pen that was not crushed. They were smart and fast to be alive this morning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Awesome Inc...

Go Chanel or Go Home: October 2009

http://chaneljacket.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 31, 2009. The trials of trim. What's a Chanel jacket without trim? Trim for red is either gold or black. Or both. Last week I was THIS close to getting iron-on gold trim. At the last second, fearing it would look cheap on a casual day topper (trying too hard at best and street wear at worst), I paused. And, and, and? I find the whole effect altogether too fuzzy. So back to the drawing board. Black and gold. So, today's options are:. Wednesday, October 28, 2009. This was quite a challeng...

Ezekiel Emanuel on the End of Life. Ezekiel Emanuel on the End of Life. Monday, July 27, 2009. Ezekiel Emanuel, the top healthcare adviser at Obama's Budget Office and brother of his chief of staff has stated repeatedly that he feels that those who have dementia should not receive medical care. I have done a search, but have found that most of the documents are not available to the public, but I did find several references that might give you a place to start if you would like to research this. I just fi...

A Guide To Quality, Taste and Style. Sunday, June 21, 2009. My latest read is Women's Wardrobe. By Kim Johnson Gross and Jeff Stone. The book is divided into the following sections: style, elements, clothes first aid, and where to find clothes. My favorite thing about the book is that they show entire outfits, head to toe, including appropriate jewelry and shoes. They also take each fabric and place it in a category. By Veronique Henderson and Pat Henshaw is one of the best books I have read on color and style in one's wardrobe. The book covers making a change, finding your best colors, finding the right shapes for your figure, hair and make-up, and building a wardrobe. Make-up colors to try:. Blush: cognac, sienna. Gillian's Guide to Sewing

Friday, February 24, 2012. Tutorial 102 - Simple seams and a hem. A seam is a line of stitches which holds two or more layers of fabric together. If a seam were sewn right at the edge of the fabric layers, the fabric would fray and the seam would fall apart. To stop this from happening, at the side of any seam you sew, you need to include a seam allowance. So let's cut some more fabric and turn you into a seamstress! A scrap piece of fabric - approx. 20 x 30 cm (8" x 12"). Your fabric needn't be ...An ex...
